জলের মধ্যেই বড় মিছিল ই-রিকশার
Massive rally of E-rickshaws rock the streets of Silchar

৪ সেপ্টেম্বরঃ জমা জলে জেরবার গোটা শহর। এরই মধ্যে ই-রিকশা মালিক ও চালক সংস্থা বেশ বড়সড় মিছিল বের করে শিলচর শহরে। আশ্রম রোডে জমায়েত হয়ে মুহুর্মুহূ স্লোগানে তাঁরা এগোন জেলাশাসকের কার্যালয়ের দিকে। শুরুতে পুলিশ বাধা দেওয়ার চেষ্টা করে। কিন্তু ই-রিকশা এবং এর মালিক-চালকরা এ দিন এত গেরুয়া রঙে সেজে উঠেছে যে তাদের আটকানোর সাহস দেখাননি কেউ। শহর পরিক্রমা করে তাঁরা জেলাশাসকের কার্যালয়ের সামনে গিয়ে জড়ো হন।

ই-রিকশা মালিক ও চালক সংস্থার পক্ষে আইনজীবী নীহাররঞ্জন দাস বলেন,শহরে ই-রিকশা ঢুকতে পারবে না। এই আইনের কথাই সবাই জানেন। কিন্তু পরবর্তী সময়ে এর সংশোধন করা হয়। এর পরেও পুরনো আইন মেনে ই-রিকশাকে শহরে ঢুকতে বাধা দেওয়া হচ্ছে। তাঁর অভিযোগ, জেলাশাসক অটো রিকশা ইউনিয়নগুলির কথায় তাঁদের ই-রিকশার চলাচলে বাধার  সৃষ্টি করছেন।

বিশ্বপতি দাস হুঁশিয়ারির সুরে শুনিয়ে দেন,  কোনওভাবে অধিকার আদায়ের দাবি থেকে সরবেন না। পরে জেলাশাসকের কাছে তাঁরা একটি স্মারকপত্র দেন।

September 4: A few hours of torrential rains has engulfed major parts of the Silchar town. But braving the odds, the e-rickshaw owners & drivers association took out a huge rally on Tuesday from Ashram Road, Silchar. Raising loud slogans they gradually proceeded towards the office of the Deputy Commissioner.

Initially police forces tried to restrict their movement. However, the drivers and owners of E-rickshaw were all draped up in saffron colour in such a way that later on police instead of prohibiting them became mute spectators. The rally went through all the major points of the town and reached the office of the Deputy Commissioner, Cachar.

Speaking on behalf of the E-rickshaw  Owners and Drivers Association, Advocate Nihar Ranjan Das said that it is known to all that E-rickshaws were debarred from entering Silchar town. But later on this order was revised. Inspite of this, ignoring the revised act, the E-rickshaws were not allowed to enter the town. He alleged that on being convinced by the Auto-rickshaw Association, the Deputy Commissioner was trying to create barriers for the E-rickshaws.
