২৮ অক্টোবরঃ রেলের চাকায় পিষে প্রাণ হারালেন শিলচরের প্রৌঢ়। ঘটনা আজ বেলা সাড়ে ১১টা। শিলচর-হাফলং ফাস্ট প্যাসেঞ্জার তখন নিউ হাফলং ছাড়ছিল। দৌড়ে দ্রুত ট্রেনে উঠতে যান এক যাত্রী। কিন্তু পা-দানিতে পা রাখতে গিয়ে নীচে চলে যান। ট্রেন বেশ কিছু জায়গা টেনে নিয়ে যায় তাঁকে। যাত্রীদের হইচইয়ে চালক ট্রেন থামালে দেখা যায়, তাঁর কোমর প্রায় গুড়িয়ে গিয়েছে। ট্র্যাক থেকে প্ল্যাটফর্মে তুলতে তুলতেই প্রাণ হারান। তাঁর ব্যাগে ১ লক্ষ ১৮ হাজার টাকা ও একটি ভোটার সচিত্র পরিচয় পত্র পাওয়া গিয়েছে। তাতে  লেখা, সুব্রত পাল, বাবা নেপাল চন্দ্র পাল, ১১ নং ওয়ার্ড।

খবর নিয়ে জানা গিয়েছে, সুব্রতবাবু ব্যবসায়ী। শিলচর ফাটকবাজারে তাঁর দোকান রয়েছে। পৈতৃক বাতাসার ব্যবসার সঙ্গে তিনি পৃথক দোকানেরও মালিক। ছাত্রজীবনে প্রথমে দুর্গাশঙ্কর পাঠশালা ও পরে অধরচাঁদ উচ্চ মাধ্যমিক বিদ্যালয়ের ছাত্র ছিলেন।

নিহত সুব্রতবাবু শিলচরের বিধায়ক দিলীপকুমার পালের মামাতুতো ভাই। বছর দুয়েক আগে তাঁর একমাত্র ভাইয়ের মৃত্যু হয়েছে। তিনি রেখে গিয়েছেন স্ত্রী, এক ছেলে ও এক মেয়ে। তাঁর ছেলে বাবার মৃতদেহ আনতে হাফলঙের উদ্দেশে রওয়ানা হয়েছেন।

October 28: A man from Silchar was crushed to death under the wheels of a train at Haflong. The incident occurred today at at 11 AM. At that time, the Silchar-Haflong Fast Passenger was just about to leave New Haflong station. Just at that moment, a passenger ran very fast in order to board the train. However, his foot slipped from the foot rest of the train and he fell down. He was dragged a little distance by the moving train. The passengers raised a hue and cry and the driver stopped the train.

People ran out to rescue him. They saw that his waist was almost crushed by the train. He was at once pulled up in the platform from the track. But in the meantime, he breathed his last. An amount of Rs. One lakh eighteen thousand was found in his bag. A photo identity voter card was also found in his possession wherein his name was written as Subrata Paul, S/O. Nepal Chandra Paul of Ward No.11.

On inquiry, it was revealed that the deceased Subrata Paul was a businessman by profession. He has a shop of his own at Silchar Fatak Bazar along with another shop which belongs to his father. he was initially a student of Durgashankar L.P. School and later on studied at Adhar Chand H.S. School.

The deceased Subrata Paul is the maternal brother of MLA Dilip Kumar Paul. Around 2 years ago, his brother also died. He is survived by his wife, a son and a daughter. His son has started for Halflong to bring the dead body of his brother.
