Major reshuffle in police ranks in Assam

December 13: As the civil and police administration, assisted by the Army, grapple to tackle the deteriorating law and order situation with tension spreading to new areas, a major upheaval of the top police ranks were also affected on Thursday.

GP Singh, the Inspector General of National Investigation Agency (NIA), India has been deputed to Assam amidst rising protests in the Guwahati. The NIA top brass will oversee the L&O (Law and Order) situation across the state. Probably unhappy over the handling of law and order situation in Assam, the Centre has sent senior police official GP Singh to Assam to tackle the situation.

IPS officer Munna Prasad Gupta has been appointed as the new city police commissioner of Guwahati. Munna Prasad Gupta served as the Inspector General, Special Protection Group (SPG) and hails from Assam’s Golaghat district. He has replaced Deepak Kumar, as the Commissioner of Police, Guwahati .
