রাধামাধব কলেজে দুই ছাত্র গোষ্ঠীর মারামারি, অভিযোগ নিয়ে উপাধ্যক্ষের কাছে স্থানীয়রা

ফের সংবাদ শিরোনামে উঠে এসেছে শিলচরের রাধামাধব কলেজ। এমনিতেই গত দু’বছর থেকে কলেজকে ঘিরে নানা অশান্তকর ঘটনার অভিযোগ রয়েছে, এরমধ্যে মঙ্গলবার নতুন এক ঘটনার সাক্ষী হল কলেজ। শহরের এক সময়ের কঠোর অনুশাসনে থাকা এই শিক্ষা প্রতিষ্ঠানটি এখন স্থানীয় জনগণেরও মাথাব্যথার কারণ হয়ে দাঁড়িয়েছে। কিছু পড়ুয়া ক্রমাগত অশান্ত পরিস্থিতি সৃষ্টি করায় এবং এর মোকাবিলায় কলেজ প্রশাসন কোনও ব্যবস্থা গ্রহণ না করায় দিনের-পর-দিন কলেজের শিক্ষার পরিবেশ নষ্ট হচ্ছে।

মঙ্গলবারও ফের এ ধরনের ঘটনায় সরাসরি আপত্তি তুলেছেন স্থানীয় বাসিন্দারা। কলেজের ছাত্র ইউনিয়নের প্রাক্তন সাধারণ সম্পাদক চন্দ্রকান্ত দাস এ দিন অভিযোগ করেন, কলেজ চত্বরের বাইরে অন্য ছাত্ররা তাকে শারীরিক নিগ্রহ করেছে। ঘটনার প্রায় সঙ্গে সঙ্গেই তিনি বেশ কিছু ছাত্র জড়ো করেন এবং কলেজের মূল গেটের বাইরে দাঁড়িয়ে এর প্রতিবাদে চিৎকার-চেঁচামেচি শুরু করেন। বেশ কিছু ছাত্র জড়ো হওয়ার ফলে কলেজের সামনের ছোট রাস্তাটি সাধারণের চলাচলের জন্য পুরোপুরি বন্ধ হয়ে যায়।

চন্দ্রকান্তের নেতৃত্বে এরপর প্রতিবাদী ছাত্ররা কলেজ চত্বরে প্রবেশ করে এবং কলেজের মূল গেটে তালা ঝুলিয়ে দেয়। এভাবে কলেজের মূল গেটে তালা ঝুলিয়ে সবার আসা যাওয়ায় বাধা সৃষ্টি করা নিত্যনৈমিত্তিক ব্যাপার হয়ে দাঁড়িয়েছে। প্রায় সময়ই পড়ুয়ারা নিয়ম নীতির তোয়াক্কা না করে কলেজের গেটে তালা ঝুলিয়ে দেয় বলে অভিযোগ রয়েছে। মঙ্গলবার অবশ্য শিক্ষকরা আন্দোলনকারী পড়ুয়াদের ডেকে নিয়ে বোঝানোর পর তারা কলেজের গেটের তালা খুলে দেয়।

এদিকে কলেজ অধ্যক্ষ ছুটিতে থাকায় উপাধ্যক্ষের হাতে একটি স্মারকপত্র তুলে দিয়ে চন্দ্রকান্ত দাস দাবি করেন যে, তাকে কলেজের বাইরে যে ছাত্ররা শারীরিক নিগ্রহ করেছে তাদের বিরুদ্ধে কলেজ যেন একটি এফআইআর দায়ের করে। একটি সূত্রে জানা গেছে, উপাধ্যক্ষ চন্দ্রকান্তের এই দাবি প্রত্যাখ্যান করেছেন এবং তিনি বলেছেন, ঘটনাটি যেহেতু কলেজ চত্বরে ঘটেনি এবং কলেজের কোনও শিক্ষক-কর্মচারী এর সাক্ষী নন, তাই এ ব্যাপারে কলেজের পক্ষে মামলা দায়ের করা সম্ভব নয়। এ ঘটনায় ছাত্রছাত্রীদের একটা বড় অংশ শঙ্কিত হয়ে পড়ে এবং তারা কলেজ ছেড়ে বাড়িতে চলে যায়। শিক্ষকরাও এই উত্তেজিত ছাত্রদের নিয়ন্ত্রণ করতে লেগে যান এবং খুব স্বাভাবিকভাবেই এজন্য ক্লাসের পড়াশোনা বিঘ্নিত হয়।

অন্যদিকে স্থানীয় বাসিন্দাদের মধ্যে কয়েকজন এ ঘটনায় ক্ষোভ ব্যক্ত করেন। তাঁরা অভিযোগ করে বলেছেন, কিছু কলেজ ছাত্রের এ ধরনের আচরণে তাঁরা তিতিবিরক্ত হয়ে পড়েছেন। তাঁদের আরও অভিযোগ, দু’বছর আগেও এ ধরনের ঘটনা কিছুটা সহনীয় ছিল। কিন্তু গত দু’বছর থেকে কলেজের কিছু পড়ুয়ার এ ধরনের চিৎকার-চেঁচামেচিতে এলাকার শান্তি নষ্ট হচ্ছে। মঙ্গলবারও যখন চন্দ্রকান্তের নেতৃত্বে কিছু ছাত্র খুব জোর গলায় চিৎকার চেঁচামেচি ও স্লোগান দিয়ে যাচ্ছিলেন, সে সময় স্থানীয় বাসিন্দাদের মধ্যে কয়েকজন কলেজ চত্বরে প্রবেশ করে উপাধ্যক্ষের কাছে এর প্রতিবাদ জানান। তাঁরা বলেন, তাদের অনেকের বাড়িতেই রোগী রয়েছেন এবং তাঁদের অনেকেরই অবস্থা সংকটজনক। কিছু ছাত্রের এ ধরনের কাণ্ডে তাঁরা রোগী নিয়ে সমস্যায় পড়েছেন বলেও উল্লেখ করেন। শেষে আন্দোলনকারী ছাত্ররা যখন দেখতে পায় যে, তাদের বিরুদ্ধে এলাকার জনগণ অভিযোগ জানাতে এসেছেন তখন তারা সেখান থেকে সরে পড়ে।

গত জুলাই মাসে ও এ ধরনের পরিস্থিতির মুখোমুখি হয়েছিল কলেজ। সে সময় ডিএলএড পরীক্ষার জন্য নর্মাল স্কুল কেন্দ্র এই কলেজটিকে পরীক্ষা কেন্দ্র হিসেবে বেছে নিয়েছিলেন। তখনও পরীক্ষা চলাকালীন বিভিন্ন ঘটনায় সরব হয়েছিলেন স্থানীয় জনগণ। এক বিশাল পুলিশবাহিনী নামিয়ে শেষমেশ পরিস্থিতি নিয়ন্ত্রণ করতে হয়েছে। স্থানীয় এক বাসিন্দা অভিযোগ করেন, ‘এমন ঘটনা চোখের সামনে দেখে আমাদের ছেলেমেয়েরা কী শিখবে ? কিছুদিন পরপর একাংশ পড়ুয়ার এ ধরনের আচরণে সত্যিই আমরা তিতিবিরক্ত হয়ে পড়েছি।’ অবসরপ্রাপ্ত এক সরকারি কর্মচারী ক্ষোভ ব্যক্ত করে বলেছেন, ‘ছাত্ররা কি কলেজে পড়াশোনা করতে আসে নাকি রাজনীতি করতে?’

এর উত্তর সময়ই দিতে পারবে। রাধামাধব কলেজ কি পড়ুয়াদের আচরণ ও পঠনপাঠনের ব্যাপারে একটি নামি শিক্ষা প্রতিষ্ঠান হিসেবে সত্যিই তার হারানো গৌরব উদ্ধারে সমর্থ হবে?

Since the last two years, Radhamadhab College (RMC), Silchar has been in the news for wrong reasons. Once famous as a disciplined institution of this valley, it has now become a major cause of concern even for the locality where it is situated. Continuous student unrest and lethargic attitude of the administration in tackling such activities has directly hampered the academic atmosphere of this college.

On Tuesday, another such incident invited the wrath of the local residents. Chandrakanta Das, former GS of the Students’ Union of the college alleged that he was physically assaulted by some other students of RMC outside the college. He at once gathered many students and started shouting outside the college gate. As a result, the lane leading to the college was almost blocked by the students, which created severe problems for the commuters.

The students then led by Chandrakanta entered into the campus and locked the main gate of the college. On enquiry, our correspondent came to know that locking the main gate and thereby prohibiting the entry and exit of all has been a recent trend. On any pretext, the students become unruly and lock the gates. On Tuesday, teachers somehow convinced the students and after much deliberation they opened the gates.

In the absence of the Principal (as he is on leave), Chandrakanta Das, then submitted a memorandum to the Vice Principal of the College demanding that the college should lodge a FIR against the student(s) who have physically assaulted him outside the campus. It has been learnt that the Vice Principal refused to lodge any such FIR as the incident happened somewhere else and no teacher/staff were witness to the incident. A major section of the students became tensed and started going back to their home. Teachers became busy in controlling the ‘unruly’ students and so naturally classes were hampered.

In the meantime, when contacted by our correspondent, local residents said that they were fed up by the unruly behavior of the college students. The situation was quite tranquil earlier. But in the last two years, the screaming and shouting by a group of students has snatched away their peace. On Tuesday, when a group of students led by Chandrakanta Das were shouting slogans at the top of their voice, local residents came to the college and met the Vice Principal in this regard. They said that many of them had patients in their house who were very critical. They alleged that non-stop screaming by a section of students is hampering their patients. Finally, when those students saw that the local people were approaching towards them, they immediately dispersed.

In the month of July 2018, another chaotic situation occurred in the college, when the college was requisitioned by Normal School, Silchar for conduct of D.El.Ed examination. Local residents alleged that during the said exam, expulsion of students due to mass copying led to unruly behavior by the examinees. A huge police force finally came to control the situation. A resident said, “What will our children learn when they see such kind of unruly behavior? We have really become fed up by the attitude of students of RMC.” A retired person furiously said to our correspondent, “Do the students come to the college for studying or for doing politics?”

Only time can answer, whether RMC will be able to restore its previous name and fame of being an educational institution renowned for the disciplined behavior of its students.
