Land Losers Association launches agitation in Assam University

আসাম বিশ্ববিদ্যালয়ের উপাচার্যের রুমে ছাত্ররা চারদিন ধরে তালা ঝুলিয়ে রেখেছে। এরই মধ্যে সোমবার প্রশাসনিক ভবনের সমস্ত গেট বন্ধ করে দেয় ল্যান্ড-লুজারস অ্যাসোসিয়েশন। তাঁদের দাবির সঙ্গে অবশ্য ছাত্রছাত্রীদের সম্পর্ক নেই। তাঁদের জমিতে বিশ্ববিদ্যালয় নির্মিত হয়েছে,  এই দাবি করে তাঁরা জানান, বিশ্ববিদ্যালয়ে নিরাপত্তা রক্ষী নিয়োগে তাঁদের সুযোগ দেওয়া হয়নি। আগে কথা হয়েছিল, এই ধরনের কম পড়ার পোস্টে তাদের সুযোগ দেওয়া হবে।

বেলা ১১টায় ভেতরে যখন অফিসার-কর্মচারীরা কাজ করছেন, তখনই রক্ষী নিয়োগের দাবিতে আন্দোলন শুরু করেন তাঁরা। রেজিস্ট্রার ড. সঞ্জীব ভট্টাচার্যের সঙ্গে তাঁরা কথা বলতে চান। অভিযোগ, তিনি তাঁদের সঙ্গে কথা বলতে চাননি। এর পরই ক্ষুব্ধ হয়ে তাঁরা প্রশাসনিক ভবনের সমস্ত গেট বন্ধ করে দেয়। শিমূল দাস নামে এক ক্যাজুয়াল কর্মী তালা খুলতে গিয়ে তাদের হাতে প্রহৃত হন। এর পরই মাঠে নামে অশিক্ষক কর্মচারী সংস্থা আনটিয়া। সভাপতি সাগ্নিক চৌধুরী শিমূলকে মারধরের ঘটনায় ক্ষোভ ব্যক্ত করেন। পরে গেট খুলে দিয়ে ধরনা অব্যাহত রাখেন ল্যান্ড-লুজাররা। শেষে জেলা প্রশাসন ম্যাজিস্ট্রেট বাসবী ঠাকুরিয়াকে বিশ্ববিদ্যালয়ে পাঠায়। তিনি সেখানে গিয়ে বিভিন্ন  পক্ষের সঙ্গে কথা বলেন। আন্দোলনকারীদের বোঝান, বেসরকারি রক্ষী নিয়োগে জেলা প্রশাসন বা বিশ্ববিদ্যালয় কর্তৃপক্ষের হাত থাকে না। যে এজেন্সির সঙ্গে বিশ্ববিদ্যালয় চুক্তিবদ্ধ হয়েছে, এরাই রক্ষী নিয়োগ করে। তবু জেলা প্রশাসন এজেন্সির সঙ্গে কথা বলার প্রতিশ্রুতি দিয়ে আন্দোলন প্রত্যাহার করান। তখন রাত ৮টা।

ওদিকে, সমীর বেহারার চাকরিতে পুনঃযোগদানের নির্দেশ ফিরিয়ে নেওয়ার দাবিতে ছাত্র-গবেষকদের আন্দোলন অব্যাহত রয়েছে। উপাচার্য বিশ্ববিদ্যালয়ে থাকলেও নিজের অফিসকক্ষের দিকে এগোননি। বরং অতিথিশালায় বসে ডিন, বিভাগীয় প্রধানদের ডেকে বৈঠক করেছেন।

October 1: Students have locked the room of the Vice Chancellor of Assam University since the last four days. Over and above, the Land Losers Association has closed all gates of the administrative building on Monday. Their demands ofcourse has got no relation with the agitation of the students. Their main contention is that the University was constructed upon their land. Raising this demand, they clarified that they have not been employed in the post of security guards. Earlier it was discussed that they will be called for service in petty posts as per their qualification.

At around 11 in the morning, when the officers and staff were working inside, all of a sudden the Land Losers Association started an agitation. They wanted to meet the Registrar, Dr. Sanjib Bhattacharjee. They alleged that the Registrar refused to have a talk with them. This infuriated them to such an extent that they locked all the 3 gates of the administrative building. An employee, named, Shimul got injury in his hand while he was trying to open the lock of the passage to the building. Very soon, Assam University Non-Teaching Employees Association (AUNTEA) jumped into the fray. Sagnik Choudhury, General Secretary of AUNTEA expressed anguish at this incident.

Later on, though the Land Loser’s opened the gate yet they continued with their agitation. On getting information Magistrate Basabi Thakuria was sent to the University by the District Administration. She tried to convince the agitating crowd that appointment of security personnel is neither in the hands of the University nor with the district administration. The agency with which the university has made an agreement, it is them who would be having their final say during the appointments. Inspite of this, the representative of the district administration assured them that they will have an interaction with the agency regarding this matter. It’s only after that the agitation was withdrawn. But by that time it was 8 in the night.

Meanwhile, the students’ agitation was continuing in demand of calling back Prof. Behara from joining and send him again for forced leave. Though the Vice Chancellor is in station, yet he did not go to his office. He rather preferred to do meetings with the Deans and Heads sitting in the University Guest House.
