L.Mani Singh translates ‘Rupasi Bangla’ in Manipuri

জীবনানন্দ দাশের “রূপসী বাংলা” মণিপুরি ভাষায় অনুবাদ করলেন এল মণি সিংহ। গত ২০ আগস্ট শিলচরে এর আনুষ্ঠানিক উন্মোচন হয়। আসাম মণিপুরি সাহিত্য পরিষদ কার্যালয়ে সে দিন ভাষা দিবস পালিত হয়। সেই অনুষ্ঠানেই শিলচর সরকারি উচ্চতর মাধ্যমিক বালক বিদ্যালয়ের অবসরপ্রাপ্ত শিক্ষক মণিবাবুর দ্বিতীয় অনুবাদ গ্রন্থটি প্রকাশিত হয়। এর আগে তিনি কবি জীবনানন্দ দাশের “বনলতা সেন” মণিপুরিতে অনুবাদ করেন। মণিবাবু বলেন, জীবনানন্দ দাশ তাঁর অন্যতম প্রিয় কবি। তাঁর কবিতা পড়লেই আক্ষেপ হয়, যারা বাংলা পড়তে পারেন না, তাঁরা সেই কাব্যরস থেকে বঞ্চিত রইলেন। সেখান থেকেই তাঁর মণিপুরিতে অনুবাদের কাজ শুরু। এই কাজে অনুপ্রেরণা জোগান  সহকর্মী তুষারকান্তি নাথ। তাঁর কথায়, “বনলতা সেন” কি “রূপসী বাংলা”, জীবনানন্দ দাশের কবিতা বারবার আউড়াতে ইচ্ছে করে। কী অপূর্ব চিত্রায়ন! কী কাব্যিক সৌন্দর্য!

প্রসঙ্গত, ১৯৯২ সালের ২০ আগস্ট মণিপুরি ভাষা সংবিধানের অষ্টম তফশিলের অন্তর্ভুক্ত হয়। সেই উপলক্ষে এই দিনে আসাম মণিপুরি সাহিত্য পরিষদ ভাষা দিবস পালন করে। শিলচরে আয়োজিত অনুষ্ঠানে বক্তারা মণিপুরি ভাষার বিকাশ নিয়ে বক্তৃতা করেন। এই অঞ্চলের মণিপুরি সাহিত্য নিয়েও চর্চা হয় সেদিন। সেখানেই মণিবাবু জানান, সুযোগ পেলে তিনি জীবনানন্দ দাশের আরও রচনা মণিপুরি পাঠকদের কাছে পৌঁছে দিতে চান।

L.Mani Singh translated “Rupasi Bangla” of Jibananda Das in Manipur. The book was formally released in a programme at Silchar on 20 August. On that day, Language Day was observed in the office of Assam Manipuri Sahitya Parishad. It was in that programme, the second translated work of L.Mani Singh was released. Earlier, he translated “Banalata Sen” of Jibanananda Das. Mani Singh was a teacher at Government Boys H.S. School, Silchar.

Speaking during the occasion, L.Mani Singh said that Jibanananda Das was one of his favourite poets. He said that those who do not know to read Bengali are deprived of the poetic creation of Jibanananda Das. That was the main motivating force which inspired him to translate such literary creation in Manipuri. He was motivated in this work by his colleague Tushar Kanti Nath. He was in high praises of the writings of Jibanananda Das and said that he feels like reading and re-reading those classics time and again.

It needs mention here that on 20 August 1992, Manipuri language was included in the 8^th Schedule of our constitution. It is in this connection that Assam Manipuri Sahitya Parishad observes this day as ‘Language Day’ every year. Other speakers during the occasion also spoke on the growth and development of Manipuri language and literature. L.Mani Singh also informed that, if he gets the scope, then he will try to translate others works of Jibanananda das in Manipuri
