Kushiyara flowing 1.2 meters above danger level, flood-like situation at Karimganj
July 13: Incessant rain during the past couple of days have created flood-like situation in all the three districts of Barak Valley. River Kushiyara at Karimganj in Karimganj district was flowing at 16.14 meters ( 1.15m above danger level ) with rising trend at 10 PM on Saturday. The danger level of Kushiyara river is 14.94 meters. This means, at present, the river is flowing 1.2 meters above the danger level.
It needs mention here that the Highest Flood Level of River Kushiyara at Karimganj is 16.57 meters, which was attained by the river on 10 June, 2010. The district administration of Karimganj has issued alert notice and have also announced emergency help line for the people in distress. In a message, the administration asked the people to call 03843-262101 or 03843-268195 for any help.
As per flood forecast issued by Central Water Commission, it was learnt that water at River Kushiyara is rising and by 6 AM on 14 July, 2019, the water is expected to be 16.25 meters. Meanwhile, the low-lying areas in Karimganj district are already facing a flood-like situation due to torrential rainfall.
River Barak at Badarpurghat in Karimganj district was flowing at 17.52 meters ( 0.67m above danger level ) with rising trend at 10 PM on Saturday.
