Insult of National Flag: Bundle of papers wrapped with Indian Flag in Karimganj DC office
September 30: Having a flag is very important for every country and their subjects are willing to do anything to protect it. As such, it is the sacred duty of each citizen not only to protect their national flag but also to honour and respect it. However, a peculiar situation came to light in Karimganj district of Assam where the national flag was insulted.
The incident of dishonouring the tricolour occurred in the office of the Deputy Commissioner of Karimganj. Bundle of papers were seen to be wrapped with the National Flag in Karimganj DC office. Very soon the picture became viral in social media.
The matter was brought to the notice of the Deputy Commissioner of Karimganj who then immediately ordered to remove the flag from the bundle. Though the flag was removed yet many were seen to severely criticise the ‘callousness’ of the government employees of the office of the Deputy Commissioner who has done such an act.
A social media user wrote, “This is an insult to our National Flag and a proper enquiry should be done to trace the person(s) who did this. He/she found to be involved in this act should be given exemplary punishment as per the existing law of the land.”
Infact, the Prevention of Insults to National Honour Act, 1971, an Act of the Parliament of India which prohibits the desecration of or insult to the country’s national symbols, including the National Flag, the constitution, the National Anthem and map of India including contempt of Indian constitution.
