India defeats Sri Lanka by 7 wickets to top World Cup 2019 points table
India will play against New Zealand in the semi-final match on 9 July 2019 at Manchester.
July 6: It was India’s day as they registered another comprehensive win. India had already qualified for semis but with Australia stuttering at the moment against South Africa, Virat Kohli & Co. finished on top of points table. India will now play against New Zealand in the semi-final.
On Saturday, India defeated Sri Lanka by 7 wickets at Leeds to go to the top of the 2019 World Cup points table with 15 points from nine matches. However, India’s final position will be conformed after the result of South Africa-Australia match.
Today’s match witnessed three centuries, two by India and 1 by Sri Lanka. India’s K.L. Rahul scored 111 runs whereas, Rohit Sharma scored 103 runs. Sri Lanka scored a total of 264 runs losing 7 wickets in 50 overs. In reply, India scored 265 runs at the loss of 3 wickets in 43.3 overs. On the other hand, Sri Lanka’s Angelo Mathews scored a knock of 113 runs. With the defeat, Sri Lanka ended their 2019 World Cup campaign at the 6th position with eight points from 9 matches.
