২৬ সেপ্টেম্বরঃ আসাম বিশ্ববিদ্যালয়ের স্নাতক পরীক্ষার ফলাফলে এ বার তিনটি বিষয়ে সর্বোচ্চ নম্বর পেয়েছে রাধামাধব কলেজের পড়ুয়ারা। রাষ্ট্রবিজ্ঞানে শুভশ্রী নাথ এবং শিক্ষায় সোনালি চন্দের সঙ্গে বাংলায় প্রথম বিভাগে প্রথম হয় অভীকরঞ্জন দাস। সবাইকে আজ কলেজের প্রতিষ্ঠাতা পরিবারের পক্ষ থেকে পুরস্কৃত করা হয়।

এই পুরস্কার বিতরণী মঞ্চেই বেরিয়ে আসে চাঞ্চল্যকর এক তথ্য। বক্তব্য রাখতে গিয়ে আসাম বিশ্ববিদ্যালয়ের বাংলা বিভাগের অধ্যাপক ড. বিশ্বতোষ চৌধুরী বলেন, যে বাংলা বিভাগ কলেজকে একটা প্রথম স্থান উপহার দিয়েছে, সেই বাংলা বিভাগে এ বার একজনও অনার্স নেয়নি। তিনি সে জন্য আক্ষেপ ব্যক্ত করেন। এর জন্য কলেজ কর্তৃপক্ষকে দায়ী করেন বিশ্বতোষবাবু। তিনি বাগ্মিতার স্বাক্ষর রেখে প্রাসঙ্গিক বহু বিষয়কে তুলে ধরেন। বলেন, পড়া যেমন শিখতে হয়, পড়ানোটাও শিখতে হয়। তাই বলে শিক্ষকরা পড়াতে পারেন না, এই অভিযোগ এনে ছাত্রদেরই পড়াতে চাওয়াটা দুঃখজনক। একে ছাত্রছাত্রীদের আত্মঘাতী সিদ্ধান্ত বলেই উল্লেখ করেন তিনি।

তিন প্রথম স্থানের সঙ্গে ইংরেজিতে দ্বিতীয় স্থানটিও এসেছে রাধামাধব কলেজে। এই কলেজেরই দীক্ষা দত্ত এই অধিকার করেছে। উল্লেখযোগ্য ফলাফলের জন্য পুরস্কার দেওয়া হয় বাংলা বিভাগের মৌসুমী দেকেও। সবাইকে পুরস্কার হিসেবে প্রদান করা হয় নগদ অর্থ, ঋষিকেশ-শেফালীকণা স্মৃতিস্মারক ও মানপত্র। গত বছর কলেজ কর্তৃপক্ষ ও প্রতিষ্ঠাতা পরিবারের মধ্যে এক মউ স্বাক্ষরিত হয়। সে অনুসারে প্রতিষ্ঠাতা পরিবার ২ লক্ষ টাকা কলেজ কর্তৃপক্ষের হাতে তুলে দেয়। এর সুদ থেকেই প্রতি বছর এই পুরস্কার প্রদান। একই মঞ্চ থেকে বুধবার কলেজের অ্যাকাডেমিক কাউন্সিলের মনিটরিং সেলের পক্ষ থেকেও মেধাবী ছাত্রছাত্রীদের বিশেষ পুরস্কার প্রদান করা হয়।

কলেজ পরিচালন সমিতির সভাপতি ড. এন বি দে সভায় পৌরোহিত্য করেন। স্বাগত ভাষণ দেন ভারপ্রাপ্ত অধ্যক্ষ যশবন্ত রায়। বিশ্বতোষবাবু ছাড়াও বক্তব্য রাখেন প্রতিষ্ঠাতা পরিবারের পক্ষে বিজ্ঞানী ড. আশিস রায়, শিলচর মহিলা কলেজ পরিচালন সমিতির সভাপতি ড. শঙ্কর ভট্টাচার্য, বিশ্ববিদ্যালয়ের কলেজ ডেভেলপমেন্ট কাউন্সিলের প্রাক্তন ডিরেক্টর ড. বিভাস দেব, রাধামাধব কলেজ পরিচালন সমিতির প্রাক্তন সভাপতি জগদীশ মজুমদার ও মনিটরিং সেলের কনভেনার ড. রাহুল চক্রবর্তী। সবাই ছাত্রছাত্রীদের ভালো নম্বর সংগ্রহের পাশাপাশি ভালো মানুষ হয়ে ওঠার উপর গুরুত্ব দেন। অনুষ্ঠান সঞ্চালনায় ছিলেন কলেজের গ্রন্থাগারিক সোনালী বিশ্বাস।

September 26: When a section of the ‘unruly’ students are busy in creating ruckus in the campus and earning bad reputation for the college, the majority of the students are sincere, hardworking & well-behaved. The truth of this statement was ascertained on Wednesday when three students of Radhamadhab College were felicitated for being toppers in three different disciplines in the last TDC examinations (Arts) under Assam University.

The three toppers are Abhik Ranjan Das (1^st class 1^st position in Bengali), Suvashree Nath (1^st class 1^st position in Political Science) and Sonali Chanda (1^st class ist positin in Education). Along with them, Diksha Dutta was also felicitated for securing 1^st class 2^nd position in English. Further, Mousumi Dey was also honoured for her outstanding performance in Bengali. They all were felicitated by the donor family of Radhamadhab College.

In a function organized by Radhamadhab College on Wednesday, the Hrishikesh-Shefalikona Smriti Award was conferred upon the meritorious students of the college with a view to encourage them to scale newer heights in their academic pursuits. This is for the second time that this endowment award ceremony by the donor family of the college is held.

All the three toppers along with Diksha and Moushumi were given a citation, a memento and cash award. Further, on the same day, the Academic Monitoring Cell of the College under the aegis of IQAC also gave awards to all of them for their good performance in BA Final examinations.

However, a bitter truth was revealed during the award giving ceremony. In his speech, Prof. Biswatosh Choudhury, Head, Department of Bengali said that the students of Radhamadhab College have been doing consistence performance in BA (Honours). He was surprised when he mentioned that the department which produced 1^st class 1^st position in Bengali has not admitted any student this year in honors stream. He indirectly blamed the college authority and the department of Bengali for this sorry state of affairs.

By dint of his gift of the gab, Prof. Choudhury spoke about certain bitter truths also. He said that that teaching is an art which also needs to be mastered. He referred to the recent ‘illogical’ demand of a section of ‘unruly students and said that it’s indeed shocking to learn that some students proclaim that the teachers cannot teach and on that pretext they want to take class themselves. He regarded this claim of the students to be a suicidal attempt.

A MOU was signed between the college authority and the donor family last year in this regard and a cheque of Rs. 2 lakh was donated for the purpose of this annual endowment award under the name and style ‘Hrishikesh-Shefalikona Smriti Award.’ Present during the occasion were Scientist Dr. Asish Kumar Roy, Engineer Dr. Angshu Kumar Roy and Dr. Anup Kumar Roy on behalf of the donor family.

The progamme was presided over by the President of the Governing Body of the College, Prof. Nikhil Bhushan Dey. The welcome address was delivered by the Principal i/c Dr. Jashobanta Roy. Others who were presnt on the dias and addressed the assemblage were Scientist Dr. Ashish Kumar Roy, Dr. Shankar Bhattacharjee, former Principal of Women’s College, Dr. Bivash Deb, Former Director CDC, Dr. J.C. Majumdar, former GB President of the College and Dr. Rahul Chakraborty, Convener of Academic and Monitoring Cell of the college.
