HPC: Open hearing of grievances of paper mill employees takes place
July 5: As per a notification issued by the Assistant Labour Commissioner, Silchar, an open hearing on issues related to premature death of workers and employees, non-payment of salaries of retired and other employees who left their job mid-way of Hindustan Paper Mills took place on 5 May, 2019 in the Conference Hall of Cachar Paper Mill, Panchgram.
Asstt.Labour Commissioner, Silchar, Rupali Pegu was present during the public hearing and noted down all grievances presented there by the employees and their family members. Speaking to way2barak, Manabendra Chakraborty said, “This open hearing is the result of Direction of National Human Rights Commission, Delhi. We are vigilant and are hopeful that something positive will come out of it.”
It needs mention here that the employees of the paper mill are devoid of salary more than a span of 2 years. 22 workers of Cachar Paper Mill died on compelling circumstances due to financial crunch since last 30 months. Mr. Chakraborty appealed before the government to come forward and and rescue the employees of HPC so that no more deaths occur once again.
