Hailakandi district administration appeals netizens to show responsibility on social media

December 20: Amid ongoing violent protest against the Citizenship (Amendment) Act, internet connections were severed in various parts of the country. In Assam too, after 9 long days, mobile internet connection was restored on Friday morning at 9 AM.

It is in this backdrop that Keerti Jalli, Deputy Commissioner, Hailakandi has appealed to all the netizens of the district to show responsibility on social media and respect the platform and use it for greater good of public. In a public notification issued on Friday by the district administration of Hailakandi, it was stated that some anti-social elements were spreading rumours in Facebook, WhatsApp and YouTube against the recently enacted Citizenship (Amendment) Act.

Such rumours have resulted in violence and communal disharmony. DC Jalli has appealed not to become a victim of any such rumours and not to forward any such unverified content. She also urged upon the netizens to bring any such objectionable content in social media to the notice of the police and administration.
