Good gesture: Rajdeep visits Sushmita’s house, seeks her cooperation
May 24: The high voltage Lok Sabha Election 2019 saw many bitter battles of words between politicians across the spectrum. However, one notable feature was the restraint exhibited by two political rivals- Rajdeep Roy of BJP and Sushmita Dev of Congress. Both contested against each other for the Silchar Parliamentary constituency. During the campaign, none of them used any foul words against each other and rather fought the election on the basis of issues.
In the greatest battle of democracy, the results for which was declared on 23 May, Rajdeep Roy defeated Sushmita Deb by a margin of 81,596 votes. Rajdeep Roy got 499414 votes whereas Sushmita Dev got 417818 votes. Just a day after the declaration of result, Dr. Rajdeep Roy exhibited good gesture and went to meet Sushmita Dev at her residence at Tarapur, Silchar. Rajdeep was accompanied by BJP district President Kaushik Rai.
It was a cordial exchange of words between them. Such scenes are rarely noticed in modern day political scenario. Sushmita too congratulated Rajdeep on his victory. Dr. Roy even touched the feet of Sushmita’s mother and former MLA Bithika Dev and sought her blessings.
A day before the declaration of results, while speaking to way2barak, Dr. Rajdeep Roy said, “If I win, I would definitely welcome suggestions from Sushmita Dev. She was the MP for five years. I would definitely make use of her experience and constructive suggestions.”
It needs mention here that in 2014 Lok Sabha Election, Sushmita Dev defeated veteran BJP leader Kabindra Purkayasthya. After her victory, she too went to the residence of Kabindra Purkayasthya and touched his feet and took his blessings.
