Giving a wrong Aadhaar number even by mistake will invite a fine of ₹ 10,000ভুল করে অন্য আধার নম্বর দিলেও ফাইন ১০ হাজার টাকা
November 12: The latest amendments to the Income Tax Act 1961, as presented in the Finance Bill 2019, not only allowed people to use Aadhaar in lieu of Permanent Account Number (PAN) but also introduced a penalty for giving a false Aadhaar number. This rule will, however, be applicable only in those cases where Aadhaar can be used in lieu of PAN and where quoting PAN is mandatory according to the rules of the income tax department.
The fine for quoting the Aadhar 12-digit biometric id number in lieu of PAN will be imposed by the Income Tax Department and not by Unique Identity Authority of India (UIDAI). Another important aspect to be noted here is that the amount of penalty shall be ₹10,000 for each default. As for example, if someone gives a wrong Aadhaar number in two forms then he/she can be fined ₹20,000.
Infact, one can use the Aadhar in lieu of PAN not only for filing income tax returns but also for carrying out the transactions for which PAN is mandatory. Some such examples include, opening of bank account, demat account and buying mutual funds, bonds, etc worth more than ₹50,000 .But for this linking of PAN card with Aadhaar card is a must.
