Floating Kamakhya Temple at Amingaon draws public attention

June 24: The famous Kamakhya Temple atop the Nilachal hills in Guwahati is in the centre of attraction now due to the ongoing four-day Ambubachi Mela. However, another Kamakhya Temple, a replica of the original one has grabbed the attention of devotees and tourists. This replica is a handiwork of Assam Tourism Development Corporation in the heart of Brahmaputra to attract tourists during the four-day long Ambubachi Mela.

The floating replica of the historic Kamakhya temple has been handcrafted by a team led by well-known artisan Arup Jyoti Borkotoky. The width of the floating Kamakhya Temple is 12 feet while the length is 40 feet.

It took eight days to erect the replica which is made of bamboo, thermocol, ply, plastic bottles and acrylic paint. This unique floating temple was inaugurated and declared open for tourists amid great enthusiasm on 22 June, 2019.
