Family members of Nizamuddin Markaz attendees quarantined at Sarusojai Sports Complex

April 2: The family members of those inhabitants of Assam who went to the Islamic congregation at Nizamuddin Markaz were also at high risk of getting contaminated and furthering the spread of the deadly coronavirus in the state. Keeping this aspect in mind, Health Minister, Himanta Biswa Sarma on Thursday late evening brought such family members to Sarusojai Sports Complex under his personal supervision. All of them were quarantined there for a period of 14 days. 

Taking to his twitter handle, minister Biswa Sarma wote, “Family members of attendees of #TablighiJamaat congregation at #NizamuddinMarkaz need to be urgently quarantined. We brought them to Sarusojai Sports Complex and I was personally present to ward off any fear among them. To fight #COVID19Pandemic important to quarantine them.”  It needs mention here that the Sarusojai Sports Complex was converted into an emergency quarantine centre.

More than hundreds of people have tested positive for coronavirus and a nationwide manhunt is on for suspected cases after a large religious gathering at Delhi’s Nizamuddin that has emerged as a virus hotspot with links to several COVID-19 deaths. “Markaz Nizamuddin” is the Delhi headquarters of the Tablighi Jamaat group. 400 plus people from attended the Markaz from Assam. Some of them are still absconding. Till now, there were 16 COVID-19 positive cases in Assam and all of them returned from the Nizamuddin Markaz.
