Eviction drive launched to vacate encroachment in Tarapur area

৮ জুলাই : সোমবার শিলচর তারাপুর ইন্ডিয়া ক্লাব পয়েন্ট থেকে রেলওয়ে ওভারব্রিজ পর্যন্ত উচ্ছেদ অভিযান চালাল কাছাড় জেলা প্রশাসন, পুলিশ বিভাগ ও শিলচর পুরসভা। এই অভিযানে সরকারি জমি দখল করে গড়ে ওঠা বিভিন্ন স্থায়ী ও অস্থায়ী নির্মাণ এসকেভেটরের সাহায্যে গুড়িয়ে দেওয়া হয়েছে।

শিলচর শহরকে যানজট মুক্ত করতে গত কয়েকদিন থেকেই এই উচ্ছেদ অভিযান শুরু করেছে সংশ্লিষ্ট বিভাগগুলো। এই উচ্ছেদ অভিযানে নেতৃত্ব দেন ম্যাজিস্ট্রেট দীপময় ঠাকুরিয়া। এদিকে স্থানীয়দের মধ্যে কয়েকজন অভিযোগ করেন, শহরে উচ্ছেদ অভিযানের কথা তারা জানলেও এ দিন যে তারাপুরে উচ্ছেদ চালানো হবে, তা আগে থেকে জানানো হয়নি। এতে অনেক ব্যবসায়ীর সামগ্রী নষ্ট হয়েছে বলে জানা গেছে। তবে প্রশাসনের একটি সূত্রে বলা হয়, এই উচ্ছেদ অভিযানের কথা আগেই এলাকায় জানিয়ে দেওয়া হয়েছিল।

অন্যদিকে, স্থানীয় বাসিন্দাদের পক্ষে অভিযোগ করা হয়েছে, এমন উচ্ছেদের কোনও মানে নেই। আগেও বহুবার উচ্ছেদ অভিযান চালানো হয়েছে। কিন্তু ক’দিন পরই আবার জবরদখল হয়েছে। ফলে স্থায়ী সমাধান না করে এমন উচ্ছেদের কোনও যুক্তি নেই।

July 8: In order to get rid of excessive traffic jam and to free roads and drains from encroachment, Silchar Municipal Board and Cachar District administration has taken in hand stringent measures. On Monday, illegally occupied government land by traders were bulldozed. The drive was carried on from India Club point at Tarapur to END colony.

Warning to vacate illegally occupied government lands by traders was served by the Chairman, Silchar Municipal Board a few days ago. It was further notified that in case, the encroached land is not vacated, then SMB will have no other option but to carry out an eviction drive. All such shops constructed on government land will be broken and the commodities inside will be seized and forfeited.

However, when these warnings were not followed by traders, so Silchar Municipality Board has now devoted itself in demolishing illegal shops.In collaboration with district administration, PWD and other related departments, a Task Force was formed for the purpose of eviction.

It needs mention that on 25 June, 2019, the SMB took concrete steps in enforcing its decision of getting the municipal area free from encroachment. In its Facebook page entitled ‘Silchar Municipal Board – Conservancy,’ it was stated that the SMB is quite serious and jumped straight into action.

Speaking to newsmen, Abhrojit Chakraborty, Ward Commissioner of Ward No.28 said that this drive is undertaken jointly by the district administration and SMB. He said, “In a meeting convened by the Deputy Commissioner to solve the traffic problem, we suggested to shift the Tarapur Market from the road side to somewhere else and to demolish all illegal shops on government land.” He further expressed thanks to the district administration for carrying on this task of eviction of encroachment.
