Eminent physician Dr. Arup Bhattacharjee expired

December 8: Eminent physician Dr. Arup Kumar Bhattacharjee breathed his last at 8.45 in the morning on Saturday at his residence at Ambicapatty Silchar. He was 80-year old. Family sources revealed that he died of lung cancer after battling with life for more than 2 years.  Dr. Arup Bhattacharjee retired from Silchar Medical College and Hospital as Professor and Vice Principal in the year 1996. He is survived by his wife, one son and two daughters.

Dr. Arup Bhattacharjee was born in Shillong in the year 1938. He did his MBBS and MD from Assam Medical College, Dibrugarh. He started his professional life as Assistant Professor at Assam Medical College, Dibrugarh. Later on, he shifted to Silchar Medical College and Hospital where he served with immense reputation till 1996. He was the Professor and Head of the Department of Medicine at SMCH. He retire as the Vice Principal of SMCH. His son Anup Kumar Bhattacharjee is a renowned Dermatologist. His two daughters are also doctors and are married in Kolkata.

A large number of persons went to his house in the morning when the news of his death was known. His death was mourned by his colleagues, students, relatives and many others who were acquainted with Dr. Bhattacharjee.
