Dr Rajdeep Roy inaugurates online art workshop of Shilpangan in collaboration with Culture Ministry

July 13: A 12-day long Online Art Workshop was inaugurated in virtual mode by Silchar MP Dr Rajdeep Roy on Monday morning. The workshop was organised by ‘Shilpangan’, a premier Institute of Fine Arts & Craft in collaboration with “North East Zone Cultural Centre, Dimapur” under the Ministry of Culture, Government of India.

During the virtual inaugural ceremony of the workshop, Dr Rajdeep Roy mentioned that Shilpangan has done a tremendous job during the lockdown like situation to devise ways and means and create avenues of showcasing the talents of the youths of this remote part of the country. “Art has got an overwhelming impact and this workshop will help in placing this valley in its truest perspective,” added Dr Roy.

Prof Niranjan Roy of Assam University also showered lavish praises upon the noble initiative undertaken by Shilpangan and wished that such type of collaborative efforts with different wings of the government departments will definitely change the socio-economic scenario of this region. Dr Nandalal Thakur, Vice President of Lalit Kala Academy, New Delhi mentioned that the initiative of Shilpangan and NEZCC is indeed a laudable one. He said, “Lalit Kala Academy would also come forward and promote  the art and art forms of Barak Valley in collaboration with Shilpangan in the near future.”

In his speech, Dr Prasenjit Roy Choudhury, Secretary of Sanskar BharatiPurvottar Prant said that the steps taken by Shilpangan in collaboration with NEZCC during the ongoing pandemic deserves appreciation and assured collaboration on its part in its future strides. Dr Rajkumar Mazumder, Head, Department of Visual Arts, Assam University appreciated the initiative undertaken by Shilpangan and NEZCC. He added that such workshops will open avenues to the new generation and also for the sake of further research.

Finally, Binay Paul, Coordinator of the camp introduced the concept of the workshop and provided a detailed description of the camp before the guests and participants who were there online during the inauguration. He further assured that Shilpangan will continue to organise such workshops in the future also.

PAINTING: Monika Paul, Joydeep Bhattacharjee, Swapan Kanti Kar, Satyajit Das, Biswajit Dutta, Ajantta Das, Prasenjit Dey, Ajoy Dey, Ankan Kangsa Banik, Debajyoti Deb, Uttam Ghosh, Sanchita Nag, Sneha Singh, Kiran Sinha and Raj Sarkar.

SCULPTURE: Binoy Paul, Nippan Das, Anuradha Rajwarh, Prasenjit Saha and Rajkumar Pashi.

‘Shilpangan’ has been relentlessly working for promotion of art and culture and instill among the people a refined taste of culture and thereby place Barak Valley in the aesthetic map of the country. Informing this, Sandipan Dutta Purkayastha, Principal of Shilpangan thanked the art fraternity for their relentless support in all its endeavour.
