District Administration & SMB organises SLRM training under Swachh Sundor Silchar initiative
October 15: A Training Programme for volunteers on Integrated & Sustainable Solid and Liquid Resource Management was organised by Cachar District Administration and Silchar Municipal Board (SMB) at District Library Auditorium on Tuesday under Swachh Sundor Silchar initiative. This training programme is sponsored by ONGC under their CSR initiative.
Selection of trainees was started from 11 October, 2019. The training was officially inaugurated by Deputy Commissioner, Cachar, Laya Madduri, Chairman SMB Niherendra Narayan Thakur, DDC,Cachar, Jessica Lalsim, Asset Manager ONGC, Amarjoyti Das & Executive Engineer PHE, Alok Biswas. The programme was intended to train the volunteers in Swachh Sundor Silchar programme. The Training will start from 16 October and will continue till 22 October, 2019.
While delivering the welcome address, DC Madduri mentioned that rejected materials from household should be treated as income generating resource and we should move from transportation of stinking garbage to dump site to converting garbage to gold with dignity of labour. The other dignitories present during the occasion also spoke on converting garbage to gold.
Later on through a slideshow, SLRM expert and advisor to apex monitoring body of NGT, C.Srinivasan explained that garbage could be converted and used as a resource for their employment generation, explaining the differences between the previous collection method of mixed waste collection and the current method of collecting household goods in a timely, segregated and decentralised manner.
Also during the programme, instead of flower bouquets and some refreshment in packed boxes, fruits were distributed in bamboo baskets. Food for the trainees was served in steel plates and glasses without using any single use material. The whole catering was done by Pushpanjali SHG members.
