70 nurses arrested at Silchar Medical, agitation continues

২৮ নভেম্বরঃ ৭০ নার্সকে গ্রেফতার করেও স্বাস্থ্যসেবা স্বাভাবিক হল শিলচর মেডিক্যাল কলেজ হাসপাতালে। একই অবস্থা অন্যান্য মেডিক্যাল কলেজ হাসপাতালে। আলোচনায় না ডেকে সরকার ধর্মঘটী নার্সদের গ্রেফতার করারই নির্দেশ দেয়। সে অনুসারে সব কটি মেডিক্যাল কলেজ থেকে পুলিশ নার্সদের তাড়িয়ে দিতে চায়। তাঁরা সরতে না চাইলে গ্রেফতার করা হয় সবাইকে। শিলচরে ধৃতদের সংখ্যা ৭০। সন্ধ্যায় সবাইকে অবশ্য ব্যক্তিগত জামিনে ছেড়ে দেওয়া হয়। মু্ক্তির পরেই অল আসাম নার্সেস অ্যাসোসিয়েশনের কাছাড় জেলা সম্পাদিকা স্বর্ণা চক্রবর্তী জানান, দাবি আদায় না হওয়া পর্যন্ত ধর্মঘট অব্যাহত থাকবে।

তাঁদের দাবিদাওয়ার মধ্যে রয়েছে সপ্তম বেতন কমিশন কার্যকর করা, শূন্যপদ পদ পূরণ, বেতনের আরওপি সংশোধন ইত্যাদি।

শিলচর মেডিক্যাল কলেজ হাসপাতালের অধ্যক্ষ ডা. বাবুল বেজবরুয়া এ দিন স্বীকার করেন, অভিজ্ঞ নার্সদের অনুপস্থিতিতে নানা সমস্যায় পড়তে হচ্ছে। ট্রেনি ও নার্সিং ছাত্রীদের দিয়ে কাজ চালিয়ে যাওয়া গেলেও অস্ত্রোপচারের সময় অভিজ্ঞ নার্সদের ছাড়া চলে না। তিনি অবশ্য আশাবাদী, নার্স ধর্মঘট প্রত্যাহার করানোর ব্যাপারে সরকার চিন্তাভাবনা করছে।

November 28: Even after arresting around 70 nurses, health service could not be normalised at Silchar Medical College and Hospital. The same is the condition with other medical colleges of the state. The statewide indefinite strike launched by the All Assam Nurses’ Association (AANA) entered the third day on Wednesday which has paralysed the normal functioning of medical college hospitals across Assam.

On Tuesday night, situation went out of control at the Gauhati Medical College and Hospital (GMCH) after the women police deployed at the hospital resorted to lathi-charge against the protesting nurses. In Assam Medical College and Hospital (AMCH), a massive protest was held which led to a scuffle between the nurses and police personnel. The protesters raised slogans against AMCH principal Hiranya Kumar Goswami like ‘Go back’. The decision of the hospital management to engage BSc nursing students from outside, angered the nurses who later tried to oust them. Police was called to prevent them from entering in the maternity ward at AMCH.

At Silchar Medical College and Hospital (SMCH) too, the management of tried to engage B.Sc nursing students from outside, but this hardly could solve the problem. This move was vehemently opposed by the nurses’ association. Speaking to news persons, Dr. Babul Bezbaruam Principal of SMCH said that due to the agitation of the staff nurses, they are facing a lot of problems. He said that the strike has affected the functioning of the hospital and patients whose surgeries have to be carried out had to be postponed.

The All Assam Nurses’ Association (AANA) has initiated this indefinite strike from Monday. The prime demands of AANA includes removal of anomalies related to their grade pay, proper implementation of Seventh pay commission, abolition of the designation of the staff nurses including the service rules through dialogues, publication of on or before December 31 per year, service rule for staff nurse, creation of posts for staff nurses, ward in-charge, assistant matron, nursing officers as per norms among others.

It was learnt that a meeting of the protesting nurses was called by the Minister of State for Health & Family Welfare, Pijush Hazarika. Though the representatives of AANA visited his office, but the meeting was abruptly cancelled.
