DDMA asks SMB to provide shelter to homeless due to prevailing cold wave
January 01: In a humanitarian move, Cachar District Disaster Management Authority has written a letter to Silchar Municipality Board (SMB) and District Social Welfare Officer wherein request was made to provide shelter to all the homeless of Silchar Municipal area as the region is likely to witness extreme cold wave in the next few days.
The letter issued by Rajib Roy, Additional Deputy Commissioner cum CEO of District Disaster Management Authority Cachar stated that “based on the IMD forecast, Silchar town and its peripheral areas are going to witness extreme cold waves for the next few days. Here it is very disheartening to see the homeless people suffering and trying to survive in such extreme climatic conditions.”
It was on the basis of the extreme weather forecast, DDMA Cachar requested the SMB and District Social Welfare Officer “to make the urban shelter homes functional or any such place ready for the homeless people so that they can atleast take shelter during the night time at such place.”
