DC Hailakandi conducts voter awareness among tea-garden labourers
March 26: Systematic Voters’ Education and Electoral Participation program, better known as SVEEP, is the flagship program of the Election Commission of India for voter education, spreading voter awareness and promoting voter literacy in India. On Monday, the SVEEP cell at Hailakandi conducted an unique awareness campaign among the tea garden labourers of the district in Narsingpore tea estate and distributed ‘Chatas'(Hats) among the labourers. Hats contained “Hailakandir Ganotrontrer Mahaparbon” logo of SVEEP cell, Hailakandi.
To ensure “No voter lefts Behind”, DC Hailakandi J Keerti from past month days has initiated series of programmes to reach out to all the voters of the district and ensure cent percent participation in the ensuing Lok Sabha polls. J Keerti along with district SVEEP cell reached out to the tea-garden labourers with the support of Anshuman Tushniel, Director of Narsinghpore Tea Estate.
Tea being the symbol for Assam, the labour working for it being it’s backbone was highlighted and celebrated with the cultural insignia of ‘chapi’. A clarion call was given to vote big and #novotertobeleftbehind in a mahautsav with cultural performances and sports competition. EVM/VVPAT awareness was also undertaken.
Various dance and games were also performed by the labourers containing the message of ‘Need of Voting’. In her speech, DC Hailakandi also requested everyone to vote during the upcoming Parliamentary elections.
