CSHD of Assam Univ conducts 2-day national seminar on ‘Emerging Bharat: Revisiting The Glorious Past’

March 17: A 2-day National Seminar on “Resurgent India, Emerging Bharat: Revisiting The Glorious Past”was held on 15-16 March, 2022. The national seminar was organized by Centre for Studies in Human Development (CSHD) and sponsored by ICSSR- NERC and Assam University at Bipin Chandra Pal Milanayatan, Assam University Silchar.

The Seminar was initiated with the welcome address by Prof. Niranjan Roy, Coordinator of the Programme. He welcomed all the dignitaries present on the dais and off the dais. He introduced the theme of Seminar before the audience present in the venue. This was followed by the address of Guest of Honour given by Dr. Pradosh Kiran Nath, Registrar, Assam University. Dr Nath in his speech mentioned about the rich heritage of Indian Culture and tradition. He also talked about the early Indian education system which benefited the entire world.

The Keynote address was given by Nidhi Tripathi, All India General Secretary, ABVP. She in her lecture discussed about Sanskrit Literature in India. She said that Sanskrit literature is so rich that provides valuable insights of Indian tradition, values and culture. She also highlighted various educational institutions in India that gave birth to a number of eminent scholars in India.

Prof. Dilip Kumar Dey, Head, Department of Statistics, Indira Gandhi National Tribal University, Amarkantak delivered the address as the Guest of Honour. He mentioned about the richness of Indian society. He also discussed about the glorious past of Indian tradition. The next speaker was Dr. Surender Singh Ghonkrokta, IAS (Retd.) Secretary General, Centre for Quality and Food Safety Chairman, State Food Commission, Himachal Pradesh who delivered his address in the capacity of the Special Guest. He in his lecture discussed about the development of Indian society with the help of past experience.

The address of Chief Guest was delivered by Diganta Biswa Sarma, Author- Translator, Sahitya Academi Awardee. He in his address highlighted the spiritual side of Indian tradition. He said that spirituality can help people develop a more hopeful outlook on life. Spiritual strength can help one to overcome hardships and for that he took instances from Gita, Ramayana and Mahabharata.

The Presidential Address was given by Prof. R. M. Pant, Vice Chancellor, Assam University. He in his address expressed his happiness in conducting such important seminar and for that he thanked the organising committee. He said that Indian culture, tradition are so strong that it always considers whole world as its family.
The Inaugural Session was concluded with Vote of Thanks by Prof. G. Ram. He also appreciated the organising committee for taking up such an important Seminar.

The two plenary session of Day 1 were merged together, which was chaired by Prof. Gopalji Mishra and Dr Surender Singh Ghonkrokta. The first speaker of the session was Prof. Dilip Kr. Dey, Head, Department of Statistics, Indira Gandhi National Tribal University, Amarkantak..The next speaker of this session was Prof. N. B. Dey, Former Dean, MG School of Economics and Commerce and UGC Emeritus Professor, Assam University. Another Speaker of this session was Prof. Mithra Dey. Former Head. Department of Ecology and Environment Sciences, Assam University. The last speaker of this session was Prof. G.Ram, Dept. Sociology, Assam University.

In the Technical Session – I which was chaired by Prof. Suparna Roy, Department of History, Assam University . Speaker of this session were Dr. Jayeeta Sen, Dept. Sociology, Ramkrishna Nagar College, Dr. Tarun Bikash Sukai, Dept. Social work, Assam University, Dr. Leena Chakraborty, Ramkrishna Nagar College, Dr. Paramita Dasgupta, M.K Dey College. All of the speakers highlighted various issues of Indian tradition and culture and made systematic overview of the glorious past of Indian society.

On the second Day on 16 March, two plenary lectures were delivered by Prof. Suparna Roy, Department of History, Assam University and Prof. Anup Kr. Dey, Head, Department of English, Assam University Diphu campus.. The session was chaired by Prof. G.Ram.

In the technical session-2 and 3, fifteen paper presenters highlighted on various issues related to the topic. They are Lurai Rongmei, Dept. of Business Administration, Assam University, Dr.K.Jilangamba Singha, Lala Rural college, Lala , Dr. Raj Kumar Mazinder, Department of Visual Arts, Assam University, Silchar,Kajal Poddar,PhD Research Scholar, Assam University, Ms.Sarada Jyoti Singha & Dr. Debotosh Chakraborty, Department of Political Science, Keshab Luitel, Gurucharan College, Silchar, Dr.Uttam Paluya, Gurucharan College, Silchar, Dr. Dipankar Roy, Govt. Model College Borkhola, Kalyani Chakravorty, Assistant Professor, Deptt. of Political Science, Cachar College, Silchar, Priyotosh Sharma, Research Scholar, Assam University, Silchar, Milan Barman, Research Scholar, Assam University, Amit Barman, PhD Research Scholar Department of Political Science, Assam University, Silchar, Rajashree Das Gupta, Ramkrishna Nagar College, Smita Debnath, Research Scholar, Assam University, Silchar and Dr. Manik Gupta, S K Roy College. The sessions were chaired by Prof. Niranjan Roy and Prof. Parag Shill.

In the valedictory session, Prof. Gopalji Mishra, Chairman, CSHD presided the session. Prof Snigdha Das Roy, Head, Department of Sanskrit, Assam University was the Guest of Honour. Prof. E.Bijoykumar Singh, Former Dean, School of Social Sciences delivered the Valedictory address. Prof. Niranjan Roy Co-ordinator of the seminar presented detailed report of different sessions of the seminar. Dr. Debotosh Chakraborty, Associate Professor, Dept. Political Science and Joint Coordinator of the Seminar offered vote of thanks. All the sessions were compared by Dr. Debotosh Chakraborty.
