Cachar Police arrests 2 ‘most wanted’ for being involved in illegal supari syndicate

Feb. 19: Cachar Police is continuing its all out operation against those involved in illegal trading of Burmese supari (beetle-nut). On Saturday, Cachar Police arrested two more most wanted persons alleged to be involved in the unholy supari syndicate. The duo were identified as Altaf Hussain and Zakir Hussain. As per sources, both of them surrendered following which they were apprehended.

Police were in the look out of the duo since a couple of days for being involved in the illegal supari syndicate. However, they were absconding. Police even pasted ‘most wanted’ posters outside their house. It was then that the police also arrested the wife of Zakir Hussain. But finally the pressure tactics applied by Cachar Police achieved success and both of them surrendered on Saturday. This was confirmed by Cachar SP Ramandeep Kaur.

Speaking with the media, SP Kaur said, “This is a process of investigation of the Police. We try to extract information about those involved in the syndicate and then arrest them. We will also interrogate the duo arrested today and find out links of others involved in the network.”
