Coronavirus screening counter set up at Silchar Airport

February 4: Amid the outbreak of the Coronavirus in China, Assam Minister of State for Health and Family Welfare, Pijush Hazarika urged upon the districts to be prepared for any sort of calamity. Coronavirus screening counter has been set up at Silchar Airport from Tuesday by Director of Health Services, Cachar.

A team of doctors and paramedics were seen to screen passengers to detect and tackle cases of the deadly virus. Ambulance service is also provided by Airports Authority of India to transport suspected patients immediately to Silchar Medical College & Hospital. However, no positive case has been reported as yet. MLA Udharband Mihir Kanti Shome also personally visited the screening counter in the airport and took stock of the situation. The Silchar Airport Authority extended all possible help to this screening camp.

It is to be mentioned that the World Health Organization (WHO) declared the coronavirus as a global health emergency. The novel coronavius has so far claimed more than 200 people in China, while confirmed cases have been reported in several countries across the world.
