Corona: District Bar Association, Silchar extends shutdown of bar till 31 March

March 20: As a preventive measure against the spread of Coronavirus, District Bar Association, Silchar has decided to remain closed till 21 March, 2020. It was further decided that the Bar Association would again meet on 23 March to review the situation and decide on the future course of action. Meanwhile, the recent decision of the government in imposing various restrictions on the assembly of people has compelled the Bar association to take emergent decision.

On Saturday, the President of District Bar Association, Silchar had a consultation with District and Session Judge Cachar, Silchar and other offices bearers and senior members as regards to the grave situation looming over in coming weeks because of COVID-19. It is in this backdrop that the Bar Association decided that in compliance with the circular of the Bar Council of India and other directives and advisories of the Government and other authorities, it would be proper to continue with the temporary closure of the Bar upto 31 March, 2020 for the protection of the interest of the advocates and the litigant public.

The District Bar Association, Silchar will therefore cease normal functioning till 31 March, Only urgent matters related to bail and injunction will be heard in the Court during this period. Earlier, the Gauhati High Court has also decided to hear only very important cases and that too in the presence of minimum persons in the court room. These steps were adopted in the backdrop of corona threat across the country.
