Corona: Awareness campaign launched by Radhamadhab College

March 21: A woman in Pune and a man in West Bengal – both without any history of foreign travel – tested positive for coronavirus on Saturday, signalling a worrying trend as COVID-19 cases in India neared 290 on Saturday. In such a situation, ‘social isolation’ seems to be the main mantra. In order to make the people aware about how to be safe, an awareness drive was undertaken by Radhamadhab College, Silchar on Saturday.

Students’ Health Care Centre of the college in collaboration with the NSS Unit went in the vicinity of the college and made the people aware about the various do’s and don’ts related to COVID-19. Leaflets were also distributed among the commuters at Sonai Road by the teachers. The techniques of hand wash was demonstrated among the people.

Present during the awareness campaign were Dr. Debashish Roy, Principal, Dr. Ashima Roy, Vice Principal, Dr. Surat Basumatary, Dr. Rahul Chakraborty, Dr. Rupam Roy, Dr. Ashish Toru Roy, Arup Paul, Dr. Santosh Baruah among others. Meanwhile, hand washing facility was also started by the college. Liquid soap and water was kept near the main gate of the college and before entering all were required to wash their hands properly.

People braced for the nationwide “Janata Curfew” – billed as a day of voluntary social distancing – on Sunday from 7 am and 9 pm, widely seen as a pilot for a broader lockdown that can be imposed if the spread continues unabated. Most public transport will not run on Sunday and all shops excluding pharmacies and grocery stores will be closed during the shutdown announced by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday. Meanwhile, all shopping malls were closed till 23 March in Silchar. Ban was also imposed on the sale of fish and meat in Silchar.
