Controversial branding of CM! ‘Don;t use my picture without prior approval,’ says Himanta Biswa

Aug 5: It was death anniversary of Assam’s first chief minister Gopinath Bordoloi. All throughout Guwahati, hoardings were put up in this connection. However, the hoardings invited criticism as Gopinath Bordoloi’s picture has been embedded in a small format while Chief Minister Dr Himanta biswa Sarma’s picture takes most of the space.

This aspect also came to the notice of the Chief Minister himself after which he issued instructions to the concerned departments about not to use his picture without prior approval of his office. Taking to his twitter handle, the Chief Minister wrote, “I do not endorse this kind of branding at all. Instruction has been issued not to use my picture from now onwards without prior approval of my office.”

Earlier, after Assam boxer Lovline Borgohain qualified for the Tokyo Olympics, similar hoardings were put up in Guwahati where interestingly, there were no pictures of lovlina, but rather a huge of Dr himanta Himanta Biswa Sarma. The pictures of the hoarding soon went viral in social media where netizens severely criticised the Chief Minister. However, Dr Sarma at that time, refrained from making any comment about this matter.
