Congress accuses BJP District President as ‘think tank of Syndicate’, urges CM to take immediate action
August 29: In a memorandum addressed to Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal, Silchar District Congress Committee urged upon him to take stringent action against the open syndicate going on in Assam in connection with Burmese betel nut, coal and urea by using Barak Valley as an easy passage. On Thursday, a delegation of the district Congress led by its President Pradip Kumar Dey, handed over the memorandum to the ADC for onward transmission to the Chief Minister.
Later on speaking to newsmen, former minister Ajit Singh said, “Time and again large number of vehicles carry Burmese betel nut, coal and urea and are allowed to pass the inter-state gates bordering Assam-Meghalaya at Digorkhal and Assam-Mizoram border at Lailapur without proper documents. This results in loss of huge amount of money to government exchequer. This is continuously highlighted both by the print and electronic media. The issue was also raised multiple times by many MLAs in the Assembly, but no concrete action is taken. So I urge upon the Chief Minister for his immediate intervention.”
Pradip Kumar Dey, President of District Congress also aired the view that government machinery and some political leaders of the state are involved with thi syndicate Raj. He quoted former MP Romen Deka who has also openly made such allegations. Quoting the media, he said that “Different Electronic News Channels of Assam has come up with the headline that BJP District President of Cachar is the main think tank, who controls and monitors the entire syndicate system.” He expressed surprise and said, “Inspite of several proof and report from responsible media houses, why is the government acting deaf and dumb till now?”
Congress leader Sanjeev Roy said, “The prevalence of Syndicate Raj in present Assam is an open secret. The government is playing the role of a blind man for reasons best known to them. The allegations raised by us are in fact that of the common citizens. If the government fails to act fast then it might soon turn into a public outcry.”
Apart from Pradip Kumar Dey, Ajit Singh and Sanjeev Roy, the delegation comprised of Sanchita Acharjee, Tuhina Biswas, Anjana Deb, Atong Singh, Jyotiprakash Bhattacharjee, Sajal Das, Ranjit Choudhury, Humayun Kabir and other office bearers of the district Congress.
