Commonwealth Conference of Parliamentary Association attended by Assam Speaker & Dy Speaker

January 16: In a rare distinction, Assam Legislative Assembly Speaker Hitendra Nath Goswami & Deputy speaker Aminul Haque Laskar attended the 7th Commonwealth Conference of Parliamentary Association, held at Lucknow on 15 & 16 January, 2020. The main theme of the conference was ‘Role of Legislators.’ A total of around 100 delegates participated in the conference.

On Wednesday, the Conference was inaugurated in the presence of Lok Sabha Speaker OM Birla and Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath. Speakers and Deputy Speakers of all the state assemblies graced the occasion. Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla addressed the 7th Commonwealth Parliamentary Association India Region Conference.

Madhya Pradesh Governor Lal Ji Tandon, Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, Speaker of UP Legislative Assembly Hriday Narayan Dixit and Chairman of UP Legislative Council Ramesh Yadav, Speaker of Assam Assembly Hitendra Nath Goswami also spoke during the conference. 

Presiding officers, Secretary-Generals, Principal Secretaries and Secretaries along with the representatives of foreign countries have also participated in the two-day long conference. One delegate each from Australia and Malaysia attended the conference as observers.

The delegates discussed on the Capacity Building of Legislators for scrutinizing Budgetary Proposals and enhancing focus of Legislators on Legislative Business. Expressing his view, Aminul Haque Laskar, Deputy Speaker of Assam Legislative Assembly said, “Hope the discussions in the conference will further strengthen the democratic system.”
