Commerce department of Radhamadhab College to be provincialised soon, assures Dr. Rajdeep Roy

September 22: The Commerce Department of Radhamadhab College, Silchar which started as a venture stream way back in 2007 will be provincialised this financial year or by next financial year. This was assured by Silchar MP Dr. Rajdeep Roy while speaking during the Hrishikesh-Shefalikona Smriti Award Ceremony organised by the Academic Monitoring Cell of Radhamadhab College, Silchar on Saturday.

In his brief but power packed speech, Dr. Rajdeep Roy said, “I had assured a few days back when I came to this college that I will try my best to get the commerce stream of this college provinvialised. I had a talk in this connection with Dr. Siddhartha Bhattacharjee, Education Minister of Government of Assam. I appealed to him to see that the Commerce Stream of Radhamadhab College gets provinvialised. Today morning I rang the Education Minister but he was unavailable & so I left a message with his Secretary. It’s indeed a coincidence that when I just entered your auditorium, I got a call from the minister. The Minister instantly told me to make the announcement that the Commerce stream of the college will be provincialsed in this financial year if possible or by the next financial year.”

Loud applauds thundered in the auditorium as soon as Dr. Roy made this announcement. He further urged upon the college authorities to repeatedly poke him so that he could in turn poke Dispur and get the work done quickly. The MP further said, “I also put this in front of our local MLA (Silchar MLA Dilip Kumar Paul was also in the dias). Both of us will do a team work so that the recognition to the Commerce stream comes this very year itself.”

Dr.Rupam Roy, Head Department of Commerce of the College thanked the MP on behalf of this college and said, “I along with Dr. Ashish Toru Roy and Arup Paul have been serving this college as teachers of commerce stream more than a decade. The declaration made by the MP has made us immense happy and I would like to request him to see that the Commerce stream gets provincialised by this financial year.”

Earlier during the day, the Felicitation programme of the meritorious students began with lighting of the lamp by the dignitaries.

Seated on the dias were the Chief Guest of the occasion Prof. Nikhil Bhushan Dey-President of Governing Body of the College, Principal in-charge Dr. P.K. Sinha, Silchar MLA Dilip Kumar Paul, MP Dr. Rajdeep Roy, Arijit Aditya-Editor of Dainik Jugasankha, Dr. Shankar Bhattacharjee-former Principal of Women’s College, Dr. Sanjeev Bhattacharjee-Registrar of Assam University, Dr. Ashish Roy on behalf of the donor family, Ch. Mani Kumar Singh-Assistant Coordinator of IQAC and Dr. Rahul Chakraborty-Convenor of Academic Monitoring Cell. All the dignitaries were felicitated with a traditional uttoriya and a sapling.

The Hrishikesh-Shefalikona Smriti Award was started 4 years ago to felicitate the meritorious students who perform well in Higher Secondary and TDC Examinations. This year too, a total of 5 girl students achieved this award. Along with it, the Academic Monitoring Cell also were given awards. The welcome address was delivered by Dr. Rahul Chakraborty. Speaking during the occasion, MLA Dilip Kumar Paul said that it was indeed a great pleasure to see 5 girl students achieving the award. He said that the Prime Minister has launched a flagship programme ‘Beti Bachao, Beti Parao’ and the fact that the girl students are performing well gives testimony to the success of Prime Minister’s dream.

Arijit Aditya, Editor of Dainik Jugasankha urged upon the college authority to start courses in Mass Communication and journalism so that the pass out students can avail jobs in the media houses. Registrar of Assam University, Dr. Sanjeev Bhattacharjee also congratulated the students who would be felicitated and also thanked the donor family for organising such a splendid programme. Dr. Shankar Bhattacharjee said that the students should also develop moral values along with their professional degrees. Dr. Ashish Roy said, “I wait eagerly every year for this day when we get the opportunity to felicitate meritorious students of this college. I wish that next year more students do well.”

The 5 students who were felicitated are Debopriya Paul and Pushpa Nath, both of whom secured 1st class in Bengali Honours. The others who were honoured are Smita Das from the department of Bengali, Debjani Deb & Manbharisha Ranee from the department of English. All of them were handed over certificates of proficiency and gifts. Apart from this, Debopriya Paul and Pushpa Nath were given cash award of Rs.2000 each, whereas Smita Das, Debjani Deb & Manbharisha Ranee were given a cash award of Rs.1500 each.

The students were handed over the awards by the dignitaries seated on the dias. Apart from them, Dr. Anup Kumar Roy, Er. Angshu Kumar Roy, Ruby Roy, Ashita Saha and Dr. Ashima Roy on behalf of the donor family also gave away the awards. Prof. Biswatosh Choudhury, Head Department of Bengali of Assam University also graced the occasion and handed over the certificate. The programme came to an end with vote of thanks which was delivered by Dr. Ashima Roy, Head, Department of Political Science of the college. The programme was comered by Dr. Sonali Choudhury, Librarian of the College.
