CM Assam inaugurates 131st edition of Durand Cup Group D matches at Sarusajai
Aug. 17: Assam Chief Minister Dr Himanta Biswa Sarma on Wednesday inaugurate the 131st edition of Durand Cup Group D matches at Indira Gandhi Athletic Stadium, Sarusajai. The more than a century old iconic Durand Cup football tournament is hosted by the state for the very first time.
Taking to his twitter handle, Assam Chief Minister Dr Himanta Biswa Sarma wrote, “Happy to inaugurate the 131st edition of Durand Cup Group D matches at Indira Gandhi Athletic Stadium, Sarusajai. Holding of the prestigious football tournament for the first time in Guwahati is a historic occasion as it coincides with Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav.”

“I’m confident that the Asia’s oldest football tournament organised jointly by @adgpi & Assam Govt in Guwahati will herald a new dawn in the world of sports in the region. It will encourage youth to take up soccer in right earnest,” added the Chief Minister.
