Classes started at Silchar Jail for the children of prisoners, courtesy Inner Wheel Club, Silchar
November 9: On Monday, a 16-member team of Inner Wheel Club of Silchar visited Silchar Central Jail and finalised a proposal to educate the children in the age group of 3 to 8. Infact, many of the female prisoners lodged there have small children who stay with their mothers inside the prison. 15 such children will be imparted education by Inner Wheel.
On 8 November, classes started inside the Silchar Central Jail. Shyamal Sinha, a teacher was engaged by Inner Wheel Club for teaching the children. He will be taking 4 classes in a week. The club has already distributed free of cost books, pencils, slate, chalk etc. to these children.
Expressing satisfaction, Jhumki Saha, President of Inner Wheel Club of Silchar said, “We are extremely happy to see that our ‘Functional Literacy Centre’ at Silchar Central Jail has become operational from today. Shyamal Sinha, a dedicated young boy will come here to teach these children. The members of the club will come here from time to time and take note of the progress made by the little children.”
Along with Jhumki Saha, Secretary- Ankita Ghosh, Minu Gope, Jailor Abhishek Sarkar and Assistant Jailor Nabawdeep Lekharuh were also present.
