CJI Ranjan Gogoi should’t have ordered Hajela’s transfer without correcting the faulty final NRC: Tarun Gogoiচূড়ান্ত এনআরসি ঠিক না করেই হাজেলাকে বদলির আদেশ দেওয়া উচিত হয়নি রঞ্জন গগৈর : তরুণ গগৈ
November 14: Taking a dig at the recent activities centering National Register of Citizens and its former Coordinator Prateek Hajela, Tarun Gogoi again fired fresh bullets of criticism. While addressing the media, the former Chief Minister and veteran Congress leader said that he would definitely write to the new Chief Justice of India SA Bobde, once he assumes charge on 18 November, 2019 on this issue.
Gogoi was highly annoyed at the transfer of former State Coordinator of NRC, Ranjan Gogoi. He categorically stated that the final NRC is full of mistakes and Chief Justice Ranjan Gogoi should not have conceded Hajela’s petition of seeking transfer from this post without correcting the final NRC list.
The recent move of the centre to reintroduce the Citizenship (Amendment) Bill (CAB) in the parliament also invited sharp criticism from Tarun Gogoi. He argued that the CAB would nullify the very purpose of the NRC in the state. He said that the final list has already made genuine people foreigner whose future is immense bleak.
The final NRC list of Assam’s National Register of Citizens (NRC) was published on 31 August, 2019. Out of a total number of 3,30,27,661 applicants, the names of 3,11,21,004 were included in the final NRC. That means a total of 19,06,657 persons were excluded from the NRC. Those excluded should approach the Foreigners’ Tribunal to dispute the exculsion of their names from the government’s list within 120 days.
