Cash more than Rs.50,000 cannot be carried until Lok Sabha Elections 2019
March 13: The Election Commission of India (ECI) has taken in hand the task of ensuring a free and fair Lok Sabha Elections, 2019. As the model code of conduct has come into force, the ECI has devised ways and means to stop illegal money transactions during the forthcoming Lok Sabha polls.
It was notified that during the poll period, the maximum amount of cash any individual can carry will be Rs. 50,000.Amount more than Rs.50,000 can also be carried, but for that necessary documents, including legal source and end use, besides business, will be required. Further, for carrying cash exceeding Rs. 1o lakh, the Income Tax department needs to be informed.
Any individual caught carrying a sum more than Rs.10 lakh will be apprehended and the EC will inform the IT department about it. The amount would be forfeited till the time the individual in whose possession the money was found provides necessary documentary evidence. Only after providing necessary proof, the amount would be released.
