12,000 employees recruited for NRC Assam released on Saturday

November 30: The transfer of NRC State Coordinator Prateek Hajela, the retirement of Chief Justice Ranjan Gogoi, the appointment of Hitesh Dev Sharma as the new boss of NRC and he proceeding towards long leave and finally the declaration of a pan-India NRC by Home Minister Amit Shah has made the process of ongoing Assam NRC as an orphan. In the midst of such a crisis, around 12,000 employees of the National Register of Citizens (NRC) have been relieved from their service with effect from 30 November, 2019.

All those who were released were asked to submit their documents to concerned authorities on 01 December, 2019. The process of updating NRC started all the back in 2013, since then the employees were working under WIPRO.

The final NRC list of Assam’s National Register of Citizens (NRC) was published on 31 August, 2019. Out of a total number of 3,30,27,661 applicants, the names of 3,11,21,004 were included in the final NRC. That means a total of 19,06,657 persons were excluded from the NRC. Meanwhile, the NRC authorities are yet to provide the proof sheet of 19,06,657 people whose names have not been listed in the final list released on 31 August, 2019.
