BUKSS media cricket fest to begin on 26 Feb, 5 teams will participate

Feb. 24: Barak Upatyaka Krira Sangbadik Songstha (BUKSS) has announced the match schedule for its annual Media Cricket Fest. In a press meet convened at its office in the DSA Silchar premises on Thursday, BUKSS office bearers made this announcement. The fest this year would be held in the memory of Late Kali Shankar Das. All the matches will be played at the stadium of Silchar DSA.

BUKKS has stepped in its 25th year and the media cricket fest in its 10th year, said Riten Bhattacharjee, President of BUKSS central committee. He further informed that in last year, a total of 6 teams participated in the fest, but due to the Municipal Board Election in Hailakandi district, the ‘Hailakandi Press Club’ team will not participate. As such, only 5 teams will participate in this cricket fest. The 5 teams which will play the tournament are Rosekandy Press Fighters, e-Media News Rockers, Karimganj Media Challenger, Valley Strong Media Panthers and YASE Khabor Heroes.

On 26 February, 2022, the BUKSS Media Cricket Fest will be inaugurated during which there will be an elaborate cultural programme. This would be followed by an exhibition cricket match, which will be played between BUKSS 11 and Silchar veteran Cricketer’s Club.

Convenor of BUKSS Media Fest Dwijendralal  Das read out the schedule of the matches to be played from 27 February. During the day, the 1st match in the morning will take place between Rosekandy Press Fighters and e-Media News Rockers; whereas, the 2nd match in the afternoon will be between Karimganj Media Challenger and Valley Strong Media Panthers. On 28 February, the match in the morning will be played between YASE Khabor Heroes and Valley Strong Media Panthers. The match in the evening will be played by Karimganj Media Challenger and e-Media News Rockers. The next day, that is, on 1 March, Rosekandy Press Fighters will face YASE Khabor heroes; whereas, in the afternoon, an exhibition match will be played in the memory of recently expired journalist from Badarpur, Sahirul Islam Bakul. This match will be played between BUKKS 11 and Badarpur Press Club. The two semi-final matches will be played on 2 March. The final match will be played on 3 March and will be a day-night event.

The champions will be given a trophy and cash award of Rs.7,000, whereas, the runners-up too will get a trophy and a cash award of Rs.5,000. All the league matches will be of 15 overs, but the final match will comprise of 20 overs. All matches will be played with white balls.

Apart from Riten Bhattacharjee and Dwijendralal Das, the press meet was also attended by Biswanath Hazam, Bedobrata Banerjee, Sayan Biswas, Abhijit Bhattacharjee, Sanjay Roy, Sanjib Singh among others.
