Broad gauge railway in Mizoram to be completed by 2022

February 29: Improved connectivity in Northeast India was assured by the Union government and keeping up to its assurance, Mizoram soon would come under railway connectivity. Railway line between Mizoram border town Bairabi and Sairang near Aizawl is scheduled to be completed by 2022.

Railway Board Chairman Vinod Kumar Yadav carried out an inspection of the ongoing construction of the 51.38  km Bairang-Sairang broad gauge railway line last Sunday. This route will comprise of will comprise of thirty-two underground tunnels and sixteen cut and cover tunnels. The railway line will also passes through 184 bridges, including 55 major bridges and four stations at Hortoki, Kawnpui, Mualkhang and Sairang.

Vinod Kumar Yadav also called on Chief Minister Zoramthanga and discussed about the ongoing railway project in the state. The construction of the railway line began in 2015.
