৯ ফেব্রুয়ারি: প্রশাসনিক ভবনে সপ্তাহহভর তালা ঝুলিয়ে রাখার জেরে ছাত্রনেতা মিলন দাসকে দুই বছরের জন্য বহিষ্কারের ঘটনাই রবিবার বিশ্ববিদ্যালয় সংশ্লিষ্টদের মধ্যে চর্চার কেন্দ্রে ছিল৷ অ্যাসিস্ট্যান্ট রেজিস্ট্রার পিনাকপাণি নাথ পুরকায়স্থের বিরুদ্ধে দুর্নীতি ও দুর্ব্যবহারের অভিযোগ এনে তাঁর শাস্তির দাবিতে আন্দোলনে নেমেছিল বিশ্ববিদ্যালয় ছাত্র সংসদ ও আসাম বিশ্ববিদ্যালয় গবেষক সংস্থা৷ মিলনবাবু এই আন্দোলনে নেতৃত্ব দিচ্ছিলেন৷ গত মাসে বিশ্ববিদ্যালয়ের প্রশাসনিক ভবনে তারা টানা ৭ দিন তালা ঝুলিয়ে রাখেন৷ কাজকর্ম পুরো বিঘ্নিত হয় তখন৷ পরে এগজিকিউটিভ কমিটির বৈঠকে উপস্থিত সদস্যদের সারা রাত বেরোতে দেওয়া হয়নি৷ অভিযোগ, উপাচার্য দিলীপচন্দ্র নাথকে দফায় দফায় অপদস্ত করেন মিলন৷
ভারপ্রাপ্ত রেজিস্ট্রার প্রদোষকিরণ নাথ অর্ডার ইস্যু করে জানিয়েছেন, মিলন দাসের বিরুদ্ধে শুধু তালা ঝোলানোরই অভিযোগ নয়৷ দুই বছর ধরে তার বিভিন্ন জ্বালাতন সইতে হচ্ছে৷ বিশেষ করে, ২০১৮-র ৫ মার্চ বিশ্ববিদ্যালয়ের ইঞ্জিনিয়ারিং সেকশন তছনছ করেন৷ অগস্টে ওই সেকশনের গেটের তালা ভাঙেন৷ একবার বিশ্ববিদ্যালয়ের মহিলা চিকিৎসককে অপদস্ত করেন, আরেকবার উপাচার্যের রুমে ঢুকে তাঁর চেয়ার ছুঁড়ে ফেলেন৷ উপাচার্য দিলীপচন্দ্র নাথকে গালিগালাজ, হুমকির অভিযোগও আনা হয়েছে মিলনের বিরুদ্ধে৷ রেজিস্ট্রার জানান, ২০১৮-র জুলাইতে তিনি একবার দিলীপবাবুকে শারীরিক নিগ্রহের চেষ্টা করেন৷ ২০১৯-র ১১ ডিসেম্বর
এগজিকিউটিভ কমিটির বৈঠক চলাকালে নাগাড়ে হুমকি দেন৷ এর কিছুদিন পরে ১৬ জানুয়ারি মিলন উপাচার্যকে সারা রাত আটকে রাখেন৷ এরই প্রেক্ষিতে বহিষ্কারের সিদ্ধান্ত৷
ভারপ্রাপ্ত রেজিস্ট্রার প্রদোষকিরণ নাথের ইস্যু করা এই অর্ডারে একপক্ষ খুশি৷ তাদের বক্তব্য, মিলন দাস বিশ্ববিদ্যালয়ে অরাজকতা সৃষ্টি করেছিলেন৷ অন্য পক্ষ মনে করেন, ছাত্রনেতাদের বিরুদ্ধে দেশজুড়ে কর্তৃপক্ষের যে অনমনীয় মনোভাব দেখা যাচ্ছে, আসাম বিশ্ববিদ্যালয়ও এর থেকে দূরে থাকতে পারেনি৷ মিলন দাস অবশ্য সংঘ পরিবার ঘনিষ্ঠ হিসাবেই পরিচিত৷ ফলে তাঁর বহিষ্কার নিয়ে চর্চা ভিন্ন মাত্রা পায়৷
February 9: Student leader Milon Das was rusticated for 2 years for keeping the administrative block under lock and key for a week. Now this incident has become the centre of all discussion in circles related to Assam University, Silchar. Assam University Students’ Union (AUSU) and Assam University Research Scholars Forum (AURSF) had infact launched an agitation demanding action against Assistant Registrar Pinakpani Nath Purkayastha on alleged charges of corruption and ill-behaviour against him.
This agitation was led from the front by Milon Das. As a result, the agitating students locked the administrative building of the University for 7 days. All works came to a standstill during this period. Later on, it was also alleged that the members of Executive Council were also locked inside the hall for the whole night. It was further alleged that, Milon Das has insulted Vice Chancellor, Prof. Dilip Chandra Nath on several counts.
On 8 February, 2020, Prodush Kiran Nath, Registrar in-charge of Assam University issued an order in which it was stated that several allegations were there against Milon Das. The order issued by the Registrar i/c stated the following reasons for taking this drastic measure against Milon Das:
- Causing threat to life of government servants/officers of the University on the late evening of 9th January 2020 in Administrative Building by attacking the officers with a group of intoxicated persons.
- Creating hindrance to office work by using force. verbal abuse, locking of administrative offices on several occasions and wrongfully confining officers and Professors of the University including Executive Council Members on 16th January 2020.
- Breaking lock of office collapsible gate towards engineering Section by hammering on 30.08.2018.
- Ransacking of Engineering Section and causing damage to Government/University property on 05.03.2018.
- Insulting and humiliating the Vice-Chancellor of the University; trying to physically attack (30. 07.2018) Vice-Chancellor in his chamber and threaten him time and again (The latest being during EC meeting on 11.12.2019 and during wrongful confinement on night of 16.01.2020). Using abusive language against Vice-Chancellor and frequently banging into Vice-Chancellor’s chamber in groups without taking due permission.
- Throwing Vice Chancellors chair from his Office Chamber on 27.07 2018.
- Humiliating lady officer (Doctor) of the University on 08.03.2018.
On 8 February, 2020, Prodush Kiran Nath, Registrar in-charge of Assam University issued an order in which it was stated that several allegations were there against Milon Das.
One section of the University has expressed satisfaction at the order issued by the Registrar on 8 February. They are of the view that Milon Das through his acts had created a ruckus inside the campus. However, another section opined that the action taken by the Registrar of Assam University cannot be seen in isolation. It is a part of the larger conspiracy against students going on in many other universities of the country at present. The closeness of Milon Das with the ‘Sangh Parivar’ has given birth to much speculations regarding the decision of Assam University to rusticate him.
