BJP leader & Former Finance Minister Arun Jaitley admitted to AIIMS
August 9: Former Finance Minister and BJP leader Arun Jaitley has been admitted to All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) in New Delhi. He was admitted on August 9 after he complained of palpitations and restlessness. He is under observation. Jaitley has been admitted to AIIMS’s cardiology department and is being monitored by a team of endocrinologist, nephrologist and cardiologist.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Union Home Minister and BJP President Amit Shah, and Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla visited the hospital to inquire about his health.
Mr Jaitley, 66, had taken a long break as a Finance Minister last year after he had undergone renal transplant. His health issues became worse after the kidney transplant. A diabetic, he also had to skip the interim budget in February when he was in hospital in the US for treatment. He was also admitted to the AIIMS for treatment in May this year also.
A lawyer by profession, he has been the most important leader in Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s Cabinet during his first tenure and often acted as the chief troubleshooter for the government.
