Bengali actress quits BJP over Delhi violence

March 1: Subhadra Mukherjee, a Bengali actress resigned from the primary membership of Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) over Delhi violence and the “recent hate-filled situation” in the country. She had joined BJP in 2013. While expressing her view, Subhadra Mukherjee said, “I had joined the party with a lot of hope and optimism. But the recent violence in Delhi, the growing atmosphere pf hatred and violence, made me feel disturbed.”

She tendered her resignation on last Friday.  Mukherjee, who has worked in several movies and TV serials like ‘Bou Kotha Kou’, ‘Sadharan Meye’, ‘Romeo and Juliet’, said that she did not want to be associated with ‘this brand of politics’ where people can be judged by their religion and made it clear that she would not continue in a party which has faces like Anurag Thakur and Kapil Mishra. However, as per reports, the BJP feels that she will definitely reconsider her decision.
