Barak Valley registers 324 positive cases on Thursday, tally rises to 12,129

Active cases 3572 in Barak Valley

September 3: The number of coronavirus positive cases are on the rise in Barak Valley along with the rest of Assam. On Thursday, the number of fresh cases in the valley increased once again. A total of 324 new COVID-19 positive cases were detected from the three districts of Barak Valley during the day. It needs mention here that on Wednesday, Barak Valley registered 237 positive cases.

Here is the district-wise break up of fresh COVID-19 positive cases detected on Thursday in Barak Valley:

  • Cachar: 192 positive cases   (It was 144 on Wednesday)
  • Karimganj: 91 positive cases (It was 64 on  Wednesday)
  • Hailakandi: 41 positive cases (It was 29 on Wednesday)

Till Thursday, a total of 12,129 persons were found positive in the three districts of Barak Valley. Out of them, Cachar registered a total of 7055 patients, Karimaganj 2610 patients and 2464 patients in Hailakandi. As of now, there are 3572 overall active cases in the valley (Cachar: 2100 active cases, Karimganj: 979 active cases & Hailakandi: 493 active cases).

On Thursday, Cachar district registered a total of 192 positive cases. Out of the 192 fresh cases, 171 of them were detected in Rapid Antigen Test (RAT), whereas 21 more positive cases were found in RT-PCR (2 slots). The number of persons detected positive in rapid tests was also more on Thursday. It needs mention here that on Wednesday, Cachar recorded 144 positive cases.

With this, the district tally of novel coronavirus cases has now gone upto 7,055. As of now, 4,920 patients in Cachar got cured and were subsequently discharged from Silchar Medical College & Hospital (SMCH) and various Covid Care Centres within the district. At present, there are 2,100 active cases in the district. The death toll in Cachar due to COVID-19 has gone upto 24.

On Thursday evening, a 83-year-old woman, Kalpana Bhattacharjee from Banipara, Silchar was brought to SMCH in a critical condition. However, on arrival at SMCH, the doctors declared that the lady was brought dead. However, as per protocol, the swab sample was collected from the dead body, which after test turned out to be positive. Finally, as per norms, the body was sent to the morgue.

41 fresh COVID-19 positive cases have been reported from Hailakandi district on Thursday, taking the total tally to 2,464. Health authorities here disclosed that of the 41 positive cases, 33 have been detected under the Rapid Antigen Test (RAT) while eight under RT-PCR. 1,100 swab samples have been taken on Thursday. Altogether 1,273 cases have been found positive under RAT with over 50 per cent without travel history. 1,955 persons on being cured have been discharged from hospitals.The number of active cases is 493.

As of now, six COVID-19 positive patients have breathed their last at Silchar Medical College and Hospital. 10 deaths at SMC&H have been declared as ‘non-COVID’ by the State level Death Audit Board. 150 COVID-19 afflicted persons are under home isolation. Of the 22,362 swab samples taken, 18,533 have tested negative. Swab results of 1,758 persons are awaited.

On Thursday, 91 new COVID-19 positive cases were detected in Karimganj district. Among them, 60 were detected post in Rapid Antigen Test (RAT), whereas, 31 tested positive in RT-PCR Test. Further, 51 persons got cured and were subsequently discharged. During the day, 979 rapid tests were done in the district. With this, till now, 2610 persons were infected with novel coronavirus. Out of them, 1631 patients were already discharged. At present, there are 979 active cases in Karimganj.

Apart from the valley, a total of 3,054 persons tested positive in Assam on Thursday, thereby taking the state tally to 1,18,333. As of now, there are 27,303 active cases in the state. Meanwhile, 1,971 patients were also discharged from across the state during the day. With this, a total of 90,697 persons were discharged in Assam. Moreover, during the day, 07 persons died due to COVID-19 in Assam, thereby taking the death tally to 330.

India’s total novel coronavirus cases have increased to 38,53,406 after a record single-day spike of 83,883 cases. So far, this is the biggest daily jump recorded by any country since the beginning of the pandemic. The death toll in the country has surged to 67,376 and coronavirus recoveries have reached 29,70,492. At present, 8,15,538 are active cases in the country.
