২৪ নভেম্বরঃ নাগরিকত্ব সংশোধনী বিল থেকে বরাক উপত্যকাকে কোনওমতে বাদ দেওয়া চলবে না। এই দাবি জানিয়েছে পৃথক বরাক দাবি কমিটি। অগপ, আসু সহ বিভিন্ন অসমিয়া জাতীয়তাবাদী সংগঠন বিলের তীব্র বিরোধিতা করে চলেছে। দাবি করছে, প্রয়োজনে অসমকে বাদ দিয়ে সংশোধনী কার্যকর হোক। এরই পাল্টা বক্তব্য পৃথক বরাক দাবি কমিটির। সভাপতি শুভদীপ দত্ত বলেন, বিল থেকে প্রয়োজনে ব্রহ্মপুত্রকে বাদ দেওয়া হোক। কিন্তু কোনও মতেই বরাককে নয়। কারণ এখানে বিলের কোনও বিরোধিতা নেই।

সে ক্ষেত্রে ব্রহ্মপুত্রের বঙ্গভাষীরা কী করবেন? শুভদীপবাবু বলেন, তাঁরা তখন বরাক উপত্যকা বা অন্য কোনও রাজ্য থেকে নাগরিকত্বের আর্জি জানাবেন। তাতে সাপও মরবে, লাঠিও ভাঙবে না।

November 24: Barak valley can in no way be left out from the Citizenship (Amendment) Bill, 2016. This demand was raised by Separate Barak Demand Committee. Various parties and organisations including AGP, AASU has been voicing severe opposition to the Citizenship Bill. These groups are in favour of getting the Bill passed excluding the state of Assam. As a challenge to this stand, the Separate Barak Demand Committee has voiced its opinion. While speaking on this issue, President of Demand Committee Subhadip Dutta said that if necessary, let Brahmaputra Valley be left out from the jurisdiction of this Bill, but Barak Valley cannot be excluded from it at any cost as there is no opposition to the Bill over here.

In that case, what will the Bengali community of Brahmaputra Valley do? Mr. Dutta replied that they can claim for citizenship from Barak Valley or any other state. In that way, they will achieve their rights without causing any trouble for others.
