Ballot box seized by miscreants at Karimganj, violent clashes

৯ ডিসেম্বরঃ দুই বুথে ব্যালট বাক্স ছিনিয়ে নেওয়া, ভুল প্রতীকের জন্য চাকরি থেকে বরখাস্ত এবং জায়গায় জায়গায় মারপিটের ঘটনার মধ্যেই করিমগঞ্জ জেলায় পঞ্চায়েত নির্বাচন সম্পন্ন হয়েছে।

ভোটগ্রহণ শুরু হওয়ার আগেই ব্যালট পেপারে গড়মিল ধরা পড়ে। সেরুলবাগে ৪০টি ব্যালট পেপার কম।  আরেক বুথে কম ১০ ব্যালট পেপার। কিছুক্ষণের জন্য ভোটগ্রহণ পিছিয়ে যায়। দুই জায়গাতেই নির্বাচন অফিসার ছুটে গিয়ে সকলের সঙ্গে কথা বলে ভোট শুরু করান। লাতু-সজপুর পঞ্চায়েতের এক নির্দল এপি সদস্য পদপ্রার্থী ব্যালটপেপার নিয়ে যান বলে অভিযোগ ওঠে। সেখানেও বেশ কিছু সময় ভোটগ্রহণ বন্ধ থাকে। রাজনৈতিক সংঘর্ষ বাঁধে কানিশাইন এবং পাথারকান্দিতে।কানিশাইলে দুইজন জখম হন। আব্দুল রেজ্জাক নামে এক যুবকের বাইকও জ্বালিয়ে দেওয়া হয়। ছুরিকাবিদ্ধ হন শহিদুল আলম। ভয়ে প্রিসাইডিং অফিসার বেশ কিছু সময় আত্মগোপন করে ছিলেন। পাথারকান্দির পয়লামুলি এলপি স্কুলেও ব্যাপক হিংসাত্মক ঘটনা ঘটে। মূলত গ্রামরক্ষী বাহিনীর বিরুদ্ধে পক্ষপাতিত্বের অভিযোগ ঘিরেই কংগ্রেস-বিজেপিতে সংঘর্ষ বাঁধে। তাতে ৪জন আহত হন। বেশ কিছুসময় ভোট নেওয়া বন্ধ থাকে।

এ দিকে, ব্যালট পেপারে ভুল প্রতীক ছাপা হওয়ায় চাকরি খোয়ালেন ডিআরডিএ জুনিয়র ইঞ্জিনিয়ার আনোয়ার হোসেন মজুমদার। তাঁরই দায়িত্বে ছিল ব্যালট পেপার ছাপা। সোনাইরপার গ্রুপ মেম্বার পদে অগপ প্রার্থীর প্রতীক হাতির বদলে আনারস ছাপা হয়। সেখানে আজ ভোট স্থগিত রাখা হয়।

অন্যদিকে, নিলামবাজারে দুটি ব্যালট বাক্স ছিনতাইর ঘটনা ঘটে।

December 9: Ballot boxes were snatched from two polling booths, official dismissed from service for printing wrong symbol in ballot paper, sporadic violence and many more incident of disorder marked the Panchayat Elections at Karimganj on Sunday.

Discrepancy in ballot paper came to the notice before the start of the polls on Sunday. Shortage of 40 ballot papers was noticed at Serulbagh. In another booth, there was shortage of 10 ballot papers. Voting was stopped for some time. In both the two places, Officers from the administration went and after having a discussion with the local people, polling was resumed.  Reports of snatching away ballot papers by an independent candidate at Latu-Sajpur panchayat also came in. Voting was temporarily suspended over there also.

Political hitch was also reported from Kanishail and Patharkandi. Two persons were injured at Kanishail. A motorbike belonging to one Abdul Rezzak was burnt. The two persons suffered injuries after they were attacked with sharp weapons, as per reports. Being scared at the incident, the Presiding officer went into hiding for some time. Incident of violence was also reported at Paylamani Lower Primary School at Patharkandi. Congress and BJP supporters attacked each other over there. Four persons were seriously injured. Polling was temporarily stopped at the centre.

Meanwhile, Anwar Hussain Majumdar, Junior Engineer of DRDA was dismissed from service for printing wrong symbol in ballot paper. He was entrusted the responsibility of printing ballot papers. In the ballot paper of an AGP candidate at Sonairpar, pineapple was printed instead of elephant. Voting was suspended today in that polling booth.

In another incident, twp ballot boxes were snatched away from Nilambazar.
