ASTC to introduce 678 new buses

February 22: It’s indeed a good news for the local commuters in Assam. The Assam State Transport Corporation (ASTC) has brought forth a new scheme called Uberization to strengthen the transport sector of the state. Under this scheme 678 buses will be introduced in which interested candidates-individuals, small business enterprise or self-help groups (SHGs), can apply by putting their buses on routes to be operated under the ASTC.

ASTC’s new scheme will additionally provide 25 percent subsidy to the beneficiaries, out of which, ten percent will be completely free. “The rest 15 percent can be repaid within a span of five years with no interest rates,” he informed. An amount of Rs 70 crore has been earmarked for the initiative, under ‘Uberisation of ASTC’ Scheme.

It needs mention here that currently there are 850 ASTC-owned buses and 1,369 buses under ASTC which are plying in Assam. ASTC has also introduced 15 electric buses in Guwahati in November last year.
