Assam govt made mandatory to keep sanitary pads for women in all government offices, factories & industries

November 20: In a state Cabinet meeting held in Guwahati on 19 November, 2019, it was decided that in Assam, all government offices, factories and industries to make sanitary napkins available for women employees. Minister for Industries and Commerce Chandra Mohan Patowary said, “The government has made it mandatory for all factories and industries in the state to keep sanitary pads for the welfare of the working women.”

It needs mention here that in the month of February 2019, The Union Labour Ministry has already decided to amend the Model Factories Rule to make it mandatory to provide sanitary napkins to all women working in factories across the country.“Sanitary napkins of adequate quantity conforming to Indian standards shall be provided and maintained in the women’s toilets for their use and the same replenished on daily basis,” the amendment was made under Rule 19 (3) and Section 112 of the Factories Act.
