Asian Studies involves itself in preservation of Manuscripts of Barak Valley

১৫ ডিসেম্বরঃ বরাক উপত্যকার হাতে লেখা পুঁথি সুরক্ষা ও সংরক্ষণে উদ্যোগী হল মৌলানা আবুল কালাম আজাদ ইনস্টিটিউট অব এশিয়ান স্টাডিজ (মাকাইজ)। মূলত নর্মাল স্কুলের পুঁথিগুলির ক্যাটালগিংই তাঁদের  মূল লক্ষ্য। সে জন্য ৬ মাসের প্রকল্প হাতে নেওয়া হয়েছে। এই সময়ের জন্য ১০জন স্নাতকোত্তর যুবাকে নিযুক্তি দেওয়া হয়েছে।

শিলচর নর্মাল স্কুল ১৯০৬ ইংরেজিতে প্রতিষ্ঠা হয়। শুরুতে পুঁথি সংগ্রহে মন দেয় শিক্ষক প্রশিক্ষণের প্রতিষ্ঠানটি। কিন্তু সেগুলি তালিকাভুক্ত হয়নি কখনও। ফলে শতবর্ষের বেশি সময় ধরে অবহেলা ভরে পড়ে রয়েছে। গবেষকদের কোনও কাজে আসেনি। তালিকা না থাকায় কোন বইটি কার কাজে আসবে, তা বের করা প্রায় অসাধ্য বলে সকলেই এড়িয়ে গিয়েছেন এতকাল।

মাকাইজের চেয়ারম্যান ড. সুজিতকুমার ঘোষ বলেন, শ-তিনেক পুঁথি কম কথা নয়। সেগুলির পাঠ সম্ভব হলে কত অজানা জিনিসই না বেরিয়ে আসত। তাঁর কথায়, এই ধরনের ব্যাপারে বিশেষ দায়িত্ব ছিল আসাম বিশ্ববিদ্যালয়ের। কেন্দ্র বা রাজ্য সরকারও এই কাজ করতে পারত। শতবর্ষ পরেও এই কাজটি কেউ করতে এগিয়ে না আসায় তিনি আক্ষেপ ব্যক্ত করেন। বরাক উপত্যকা বঙ্গ সাহিত্য ও সংস্কৃতি সম্মেলনের অনুরোধে এ বার মাকাইজ তাই এগিয়ে এসেছে।

এই নতুন প্রজেক্টের ইনচার্জ ড. অমলেন্দু ভট্টাচার্য বলেন, ক্যাটালগিং শেষ হলেই গবেষকরা আসবেন, প্রয়োজনীয় পুঁথি সংগ্রহ করে পড়বেন, তখন নতুন বিভিন্ন বিষয় সামনে আসার সম্ভাবনা রয়েছে।

সাংবাদিকদের সঙ্গে এ দিন মত বিনিময় করেন নর্মাল স্কুলের অধ্যক্ষা ড. মানসী সিনহা, আসাম বিশ্ববিদ্যালয়ের ইতিহাস বিভাগের প্রধান ড. প্রজিতকুমার পালিত ও মহিলা মহাবিদ্যালয় পরিচালন সমিতির সভাপতি ড. শঙ্কর ভট্টাচার্য।

December 15: Maulana Abul Kalam Azad Institute of Asian Studies (MAKAIAS) has taken  initiative in preservation of the hand written manuscripts of Barak Valley. Their main thrust area is to catalogue the manuscripts available at Silchar Normal School. For this, a 6-month project has been undertaken by MAKAIAS. 10 post-graduate youth were appointed for this purpose.

Silchar Normal School was established in the year 1906. Though the manuscripts were preserved by the school authority but these were never catalogued. As a result, these priceless manuscripts were lying at sixes and sevens since more than 100 years. In the absence of any catalogue, the manuscripts were hardly of any use to researchers.

Chairman of MAKAIAS Dr. Sujit Ghosh said that Normal School has in their possession around 300 such manuscripts, which is indeed a huge collection. He expressed the view that if the manuscripts were read by researchers, then many unknown facts would have come to the limelight. he, however, lamented the role of Assam University and both central and state government to have ignored such valuable treasure since such a long period of time. Finally, on the request of Barak Upottaka Banga Sahitya O Sanskriti Sammelan, MAKAIAS.  has come forward and taken in hand this noble venture.

Dr. Amalendu Bhattacharjee, in-charge of this project said that once this cataloguing is over, then it would attract researchers to explore these manuscripts and thus many unknown facts would come to the forefront.

Apart from Dr. Ghosh and Dr. Bhattacharjee, Manashi Sinha-Principal of the School, Prof. Projit Palit of Assam University and Dr. Shankar Bhattacharjee- Retired Principal of Women’s College also shared their views with the newsmen.
