Appolo Club goes green, distributes Mahaprasad on banana leaf

October 7: Three decades ago, all occasion be it religious or social, food was served on banana leaves and water in earthen glass. However, with the advent of single use plastic, banana leaves and earthen glass died its natural death.

The present political dispensation has started a campaign against single use plastics. At Silchar too,  Deputy Commissioner Laya Madduri passed strictures banning single use plastic in Cachar district. Keeping themselves alive to the appeal of the administration, Appolo Club, Meherpur made arrangements for distribution of Maha Prasad in banana leaves this Durga Puja.

Devotees, rich and poor were seen having Prasad in banana leaves. Avoiding thermocol plates and plastic glasses, food was served on green banana leaves.

Speaking to way2barak, the organizers of Appolo Club Durga Puja committee said, “As responsible citizens, we felt that it is our duty to respond to the call of district administration in the war against plastic. We would also appeal to the other puja committees to go green and use banana leaves instead of plastic or thermocol plates while serving prasad.”
