ABVP accuses Professor as anti-national, fearful Professor touches feet
September 28: Professor Dinesh Gupta is a senior faculty working in a government college at Mandsaur in Bhopal. On Wednesday, Prof. Dinesh Gupta was inside a classroom when a group of ABVP activists, on their way to submit a memorandum to the principal over a delay in the announcement of fourth semester (Science) results, raised slogans in the corridor. He asked the protesters not to shout slogans saying it was difficult to conduct the class with the noise.
This lesson on discipline could not be digested by the students belonging to ABVP and so they alleged that Prof. Dinesh Gupta stopped them from saying “Vande Mataram” and “Bharat Mata Ki Jai.” Saying so, the ABVP activists called him an “anti-national”, and even warned him that they would file an FIR against him for his “unpatriotic” act.
After devoting more than two decades of his dedicated service in teaching profession, Prof. Gupta felt extremely humiliated by such allegations made by the students. So disturbed was Gupta by the humiliation that he touched the feet of protesters. In a video, reportedly shot by local television reporters, the professor can be seen chasing the protesters to touch their feet one by one even as they try to stop him from doing so. On the very next morning, the Professor applied for a three day leave.
The incident would have gone unnoticed, but in a video reportedly shot by local television reporters, the Professor could be seen chasing the ABVP students to touch their feet one by one even as they try to stop him from doing so.
BJP MLA from Mandsaur, Yashpal Sisodiya claimed the students did not ask the professor to apologise or touch their feet, but he did that on his own. There is no video footage as yet to prove that the ABVP activists made him apologise, he said, adding that he was trying to mediate between the two sides. He said, “I am trying to get the students to apologise if they are at fault or to get him to pardon the students.”
After the video of the incident went viral, people were shocked to see the condition of the present day student political activists. People lamented at the fast erosion of social values wherein student leaders have forgotten the ancient Indian traditional value system of ‘Guru-Sishya Parampara.’
